Job Summary
Volunteer drivers provide a vital lifeline to help people without transport to get out and about. Volunteers use their own cars to take passengers to a variety of destinations, e.g. health appointments, to do their shopping, attend lunch clubs and to visit friends and relatives.
Many of our passengers view their transport as much more than a car journey – it is also an opportunity to go out with someone they view as safe, have a chat with their driver, get out and about in the ‘wider world’, to take part in their communities and to remain independent.
We ask for a commitment of a minimum of 2 hours and are guided by your availability to drive during the week. Either Gedling, Newark & Sherwood or Rushcliffe.
We encourage volunteers to stay for a minimum period of six months.
What you will be doing
* Transporting registered passengers with Your CVS Community Transport Scheme to and from pre-booked destinations.
Skills
* A competent, safe driver with a full UK driving licence
* Friendly, patient and good with people

* Knowledge of the geography of the local area

* Accompany one of our existing Volunteer Drivers, before you start, so you can see how it all works

Other information
All drivers will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, they will also need to provide two references.
Applicants must have at least 2 years driving experience and hold a full EU driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points, and are required to have appropriate insurance and an up to date MOT certificate.
Travel expenses are covered and mileage reimbursed at 0.45 pence per mile.

The selection process will involve completing a short application form and a chat with the co-ordinator to discuss the service in more detail. After this, if the role seems like it would suit you, we will follow up on references, arrange the DBS check and invite you in for training.
