Responsibilities
* Maintain, inspect and repair land alongside the track network to keep the railway safe and efficient. This includes vegetation management, drainage and ancillary structures.
* Work outdoors in all conditions, as part of a team, often involving manual work and transport of equipment across difficult terrain.
* Lead or assist the team as required by the team leader, ensuring safe work and that the team has the competencies needed to meet safety standards.
Requirements and Skills
* Experience leading a team in outdoor or construction environments, or experience in construction, drainage, arboriculture, agriculture, drainage or fencing.
* Leadership: able to motivate and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
* Effective communication: strong ability to give clear instructions to the team and colleagues.
* Technical: knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal techniques in the applicable discipline.
* Safety: model safe behaviours, implement safe systems of work, and challenge unsafe situations.
* Problem solving: persistent in finding safe and effective solutions; keep skills up to date with new standards and procedures.
* Willingness to learn and relevant qualification (NVQ Level 1 or 2 or equivalent experience).
What matters for this role
* Shifts: days, nights and weekends; outdoor working in all weathers.
* Safety checks: drug and alcohol testing and relevant medical, BPSS pre-employment checks; hearing and eyesight examination.
* Driving: valid category B driving license to drive Network Rail vehicles.
* Commute: within a 60-minute commute of the location.
Compensation and Benefits
* Salary: £37,073 per annum. Some on-call may be required.
