The School

This is a great opportunity for psychology graduates interested in working with neurodiverse children and young people. Located in Chertsey, Surrey, the school supports secondary-aged pupils with a range of learning and behavioural needs. All students have a designated Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) detailing their specific support requirements. The students' needs are generally mild compared to other special schools in the area.

The school offers a specialized environment tailored to meet the students' needs, including a therapeutic curriculum covering all core subjects. Many students aim to achieve GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications, making it essential to support their understanding of key subjects like maths and English to facilitate their access to further education or training.

Summary

Specialist secondary school catering to students with diverse learning needs, including autism, Down's syndrome, speech and language challenges, and social-emotional difficulties. The school also provides for deaf students.

Class sizes range from 6 to 8 students, with a focus on effective communication techniques.

Facilities include therapy rooms and designated areas for support from SALTs, occupational therapists, psychologists, and counsellors.

An integrated therapeutic approach and extensive 1-1 support are provided for every pupil.

Communication methods such as Makaton and PECS are used.

The curriculum emphasizes preparation for GCSEs and tailored learning to meet individual needs.

The school prefers LSAs who understand their objectives and are interested in pursuing careers as speech and language therapists.

Qualifications in psychology or specialized SEN training are highly desirable.
