Job purpose The role of CFD Simulation Engineer Vehicle Aerodynamics Performance will support aerodynamic and CFD simulation to support vehicle performance development through high-fidelity virtual analysis. This role focuses on delivering aerodynamic performance, stability, and efficiency improvements using CFD to influence vehicle design from concept through to production. The role will act as a technical contributor, providing aerodynamic simulation collaboration working closely with design, testing, and vehicle engineering teams to ensure vehicles meet performance, efficiency, and reliability targets while supporting concept, development, and validation phases. Key duties and responsibilities Aerodynamics & CFD Simulation: Develop, maintain, and apply CFD models for vehicle aerodynamics. Perform simulations covering drag, lift, balance, cooling airflow, and aerodynamic stability. Support concept evaluation, architecture trade-offs, and target setting using CFD. Conduct design optimisation, sensitivity studies, and DOE to guide vehicle shape and detail development. Model Quality, Validation & Correlation: Ensure high-quality CFD model build, meshing strategy, and solver setup. Correlate CFD results with wind tunnel and on-road aerodynamic test data. Continuously improve model fidelity, robustness, and turnaround time. Ensure simulation outputs are fit for engineering decision-making. Technical Leadership: Act as a subject-matter expert in vehicle aerodynamic CFD. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers. Support aerodynamic issue resolution and countermeasure development. Review and approve aerodynamic CAE deliverables. Tools, Methods & Continuous Improvement: Develop and improve CFD workflows, automation, and best practices. Apply scripting and data analysis to improve efficiency and insight. Support integration of aerodynamics with other vehicle performance domains (e.g. thermal, NVH, vehicle dynamics). Stay current with industry trends in CFD methods and aerodynamic development. Experience and qualifications Required Qualifications & Experience Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline. Experience in vehicle aerodynamic CAE and CFD simulation. Strong understanding of external aerodynamics, body flows, and vehicle aero performance. Proven experience correlating CFD predictions with wind tunnel or track test data. Experience supporting vehicle development programmes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Technical Skills CFD solvers (e.g. STAR-CCM, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM). Meshing and pre-processing tools. Post-processing and data analysis (e.g. MATLAB, Python). Experience working in HIGH PERFORMANCE PRODUCT environments. Knowledge of aerodynamic optimisation and DOE techniques is advantageous. Desirable Attributes Experience with EV aero efficiency and range optimisation. Exposure to thermal management or aeroacoustics. Background in motorsport or high-performance vehicle aerodynamics. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proactive, detail-oriented, and hands-on approach to simulation challenges. Additional requirements The requirement to work on-site 3 days a week as minimal. Flexibility on start and finish times due to events and different locations is required.
