Position:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Endoscopy Decontamination Technician, Band 3, within our Decontamination Unit based at Endoscopy, University Hospital Ayr.
Hours and Shift Pattern:
36 hours per week over 5 days, Monday to Friday
This post is offered on a permanent basis.
From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
What you will do:
The technician will assist in ensuring a safe and efficient delivery of service to all users ensuring compliance at all times within the departmental quality system and Health and Safety requirements in accordance with SHTM 01-06 and local infection control policy for the decontamination of flexible endoscopes.
Applications will also be considered from applicants who do not meet the essential criteria for the band 3 role to commence as a Trainee. This will involve successfully completing the certified training programme and competency assessment (approx. 12-18 months), after which there will be progression to Band 3, with salary adjusted accordingly from the date of successful completion.
During the training period payment will be in accordance with Annex 21 Agenda for Change terms and conditions.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Decontamination Technical Certificate (TC) e-learning programme, Institute of Decontamination Science (IDSc), SCQF Level 6
1. NES – Decontamination of Reusable Medical Devices (RMD) local and Endoscopy
2. Completion of practical decontamination training and competence achieved in all areas
3. Experience in Endoscopy Decontamination including production and quality control
4. Knowledge and understanding of hospital policies including environmental, infection control, health and safety, staff governance, waste management and risk management
5. Knowledge on operation of Endoscopic Washer Disinfectors and drying cabinets
6. Methods of decontamination and compatibility/suitability of equipment
7. Good communication and interpersonal skills
