The Representative Church Body (RCB) is the trustee of the Church of Ireland and develops policy to support the effective mission of parishes and dioceses. The Communications Manager will develop policy, coordinate training and oversee/deliver communications for the Church of Ireland.The RCB is seeking to recruit a proactive Communications Manager to advise church leaders and to liaise with media in relation to news items and current affairs. The role will include oversight of the Church of Ireland website and the preparation of news articles and social media content.The role will report directly to the Head of Synod Services and Communications.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide communications and media support to the Archbishop of ArmaghProvide communications and media support to senior clergy, church spokespersons and committeesPrepare research, briefing papers, articles etc.Assist church bodies with communications planning and advice communications policyMaintain a network of contacts with journalists and mediaOversee the development of the Church of Ireland website and social media channelsManage the Website and Information AdministratorAttend and report on significant church eventsSupport the management team with internal communicationsParticipate in an on-call rotaEducation, experience and competenciesEducation & trainingEssentialQualification in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or relevant discipline.DesirablePost graduate qualifications in a relevant and/or complementary discipline.ExperienceEssentialAt least 5 years experience working in communications or media for a complex organisation.DesirableExperience of working in a broad role covering the main duties and responsibilities of this position.Knowledge & skillsEssentialAbility to work effectively as part of a team and to support senior leaders.A strong knowledge of current affairs and issues in society in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.Experience of producing written materials, using social media, audio visual output, photography, and design.DesirableAn understanding of the church-state relations and the governance of the Church of Ireland.OtherEssentialWilling to work flexibly. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Hands-on capability.Able to work and live in Northern Ireland and Ireland with access to a car.The Representative Church Body reserves the right to amend these criteria for the purposes of shortlisting.
