This is an exciting secondment opportunity to experience a role with a broad scope of activities not generally available within the MBDA organisation. As the Finance Director of a wholly owned subsidiary with annual revenue of £10m and a headcount of 90 people, the job holder is a member of the Exec team working closely with the MD to deliver strategic change to the business. Job Title : Finance Director, Currock Engineering Ltd (secondment) Grade: Level B (depending upon experience) Secondment duration: Likely 2 years Location: Chelmsford (we may be able to offer a relocation package for this role) Please note: Automatic promotion is not guaranteed Dynamic working : Given the close working relationship with the MD, the financial controller, IT manager and the wider management team, a physical on-site presence is an expectation of the job holder, however occasional remote working can be considered if agreed in advance and meets business needs. The opportunity: Currock employs c.90 people, and the Finance and Business Systems team are responsible for providing a full financial service to the business, together with supporting all aspects of the IT systems in use across the business (ERP system, devices, software, IT security……) with the support of an external IT support service. This small team is made up from the following roles: Financial Controller Financial Assistant (part-time) Admin support IT Manager Prior to the acquisition by MBDA in September 2024 there was insufficient focus on financial performance, in fact the FD role at Currock did not exist prior to MBDA’s acquisition. Consequently, you will have the opportunity to work with the MD to shape and evolve the role of the finance and IM team within the business. You will be regularly called upon by members of the wider management team for financial support and guidance across a wide range of topics. The role requires a proactive, hands-on approach as each day provides its own mix of opportunities and challenges, with a focus on proactively defining and delivering improvement plans. With the implementation of an upgraded ERP system that is scheduled to Go Live in November 2025 you will have the opportunity to take financial support to a new level, supporting the business to both improved operational performance and financial results. The Finance Director will join the Board of Currock as a legal director of the business and will be a key member of its Executive Committee, which has responsibility for shaping and delivering the strategic direction of the organisation. A key function of the role is establish detailed financial budgets and multi-year plans alongside insightful monthly financial reporting (quarterly for the Board), to highlight financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Working closely with the MD, you will inject financial insight into strategic business decisions across a number of areas including customer pricing & bidding, capital investments and landlord engagements to name a few. Other responsibilities include: Leading and managing all financial planning, forecasting and reporting activities Providing guidance on financial performance and improvement/growth opportunities Cash flow budgeting and management Development and evolution of a budget/planning model for the business Developing the costing processes and tool sets to support bidding activity and improving the visibility of the profitability of product lines Ensuring compliance with all financial and statutory regulations, including liaison with external auditors and the MBDA tax team Overseeing the company’s IT and Business Systems What we’re looking for from you: A qualified accountant with a commercial outlook, a proven track record and experience across a number of financial roles A key part of the role is being able to provide a link/insight into MBDA’s integrated organisation and to bring that knowledge to Currock A strong commercial outlook; you will thrive in a dynamic environment where priorities can change rapidly Enjoy working with and contributing to a diverse cross-functional senior leadership team of 5, and the wider management team.
