Role Overview
The Accredited Psychological Therapist will play a crucial role in providing consultation, psychological support, training, and development to those caring for children and young people who have experienced developmental and relational trauma. The focus will be on supporting systems around these children, with a smaller caseload dedicated to direct work. Responsibilities include psychological assessments, formulation, and intervention to support children, young people, and families. The role also involves offering psychological consultation to help carers and professionals understand the needs and experiences of the children they support.
Key Responsibilities
– Conduct psychological assessments and therapeutic interventions for children and young people.
– Provide psychological consultation, reflective practice, and network meetings to support systems and professionals.
– Utilise developmental and relational trauma theories to formulate the needs of children and young people.
– Attend meetings and statutory reviews to present assessments and therapy reviews.
– Offer therapeutic support to external organisations, including consultation, training, and staff support.
– Prepare regular written reports on psychological assessments and interventions.
– Liaise with relevant professionals regarding therapeutic and systemic interventions.
– Contribute to routine assessment and care planning for young people.
– Develop the service to meet the therapeutic and psychological needs of all systems supported.
– Provide mental health and psychological opinions for potential referrals.
– Deliver relevant training to teams.
– Participate in recruitment and induction of new staff.
– Engage in Continued Professional Development activities to maintain clinical skills.
– Attend and contribute to peer supervision within the Therapy Service.
– Receive Clinical Supervision in accordance with regulatory body requirements.
– Adhere to policies and procedures.
– Work autonomously across multiple contracts, managing time and workload effectively.
– Conduct regular auditing and monitoring of caseloads to ensure service compliance.
Essential Criteria
– Accreditation in a therapeutic approach or working towards accreditation.
– Experience working with young people with complex presentations (e.g., CLA, LAC, CAMHS, YOT).
– Further training in therapeutic models relevant to young people (e.g., DDP, CFT, Mentalisation, DBT).
– Experience coordinating therapeutic care for children and young people.
– Ability to apply psychological theories to health and social care.
– Proficiency in disseminating assessment findings and formulation to various audiences.
– Strong organisational skills and ability to work autonomously.
– Skills in assessment, formulation, intervention, and evaluating practice outcomes.
– Capability to contribute to CLA/LAC reviews and professional meetings, including family law proceedings.
– Leadership in collaborative care planning, training, and reflective practice sessions.
– Flexibility and responsiveness in working with supported services, especially during periods of change or crisis.
Probation Expectations
The role includes a 6-month probationary period with structured feedback, focused review of clinical competence and relational skills, and clear expectations around responsiveness and autonomy
