Position Overview The Mainframe Architect plays a pivotal role in delivering end-to-end technical solutions for complex enterprise environments. Acting as the bridge between stakeholders and delivery teams, the architect guides the full project lifecycle—from strategic planning to technical execution—ensuring solutions are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with client objectives. In this role, the architect leads engagements with enterprise clients, gathering business requirements, defining solution architectures, and driving the modernization of mainframe systems. The position also involves mentoring teams, collaborating with multi-disciplinary experts, and managing integration with cloud platforms and modern technologies. Key Responsibilities Serve as the subject matter expert for mainframe database architectures, providing leadership in solution design and technical delivery. Collaborate with clients to define success criteria, gather inputs, and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. Design, implement, and optimize mainframe databases and subsystems, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. Lead modernization initiatives, enabling integration with cloud services and unlocking value from existing mainframe data assets. Guide cross-functional teams throughout the solution lifecycle, including external vendors and client governance stakeholders. Provide insights on emerging technologies and best practices, supporting continuous improvement and innovation. Required Skills and Qualifications 12 years of experience in enterprise IT, with deep expertise in mainframe database systems such as IBM DB2™, IMS, Adabas, Cincom Supra, or Datacom. Strong understanding of z/OS environments and technologies including JCL, JES, RACF/ACF2, CICS, COBOL, PL/I, SQL, and Natural. Proven experience in database performance tuning, capacity planning, and high availability configuration. Ability to articulate the value of modern database features in achieving business outcomes. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. Strong communication and presentation capabilities, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. Preferred Experience Exposure to hybrid cloud environments and cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, GCP). Experience with Agile frameworks such as Scrum, SAFe, or Kanban. Familiarity with modern software development practices and DevOps culture. Advanced certifications in key technologies or cloud platforms.
