Main duties of the job
To support the practicenursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of thepractice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practiceto the entitled patient population. The healthcare assistant will deliver andassist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, healthpromotion and patient education.
Delivering a phlebotomy service, including homevisits where required
Blood pressure recording.
Measuring weight and height (BMI)and offeringlifestyle advice where appropriate
Collection of urine specimens
Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriatewho are being examined or treated by another clinician
Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by thenursing team
Fridge monitoring, maintain cold chain and adheringto policy.
Participation in administrative systems in thePractice
At all times there will be a need to maintainaccurate records
Attend and participate in Practice meetings
Have a sound knowledge of the Practices infectioncontrol policy

Job responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities
Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the phlebotomist. Theremay be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will bedependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
Undertake new patient health checks
Support the practice nurse with healthpromotion programmes
Carry out baseline observations suchas pulse oximitery, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recordingfindings accurately
Carry out BMI checks as directed
Act as a chaperone as required
venepuncture
Ensure specimens are recorded andready for onward transportation
Vaccine/cold chain storage,monitoring and recording
Ensure all clinical rooms areadequately stocked and prepared for each session
Ensure fridges are cleaned routinelyin accordance with extant guidance
Deliver opportunistic healthpromotion where appropriate
