Network Engineer
Location: Potters Bar (South Mimms) Onsite 4 days per week
On-Call Requirement: 1 week in every 4

Walter Everett is a specialist recruitment consultancy currently partnering with a large consultancy to help source an experienced Network Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a dynamic team and make a significant impact within a complex, enterprise-scale environment.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Manage incidents and problems within agreed service levels.
* Conduct technical root cause analysis on reoccurring or major incidents.
* Engage in project work to ensure technical designs align with customer requirements.
* Ensure customer environments comply with established standards and regulatory frameworks.
* Maintain high-quality technical documentation.
* Proactively manage customer networks to improve stability, availability, and performance.
* Contribute to infrastructure roadmaps, proposals, impact assessments, and statements of work.
* Support the delivery of technical excellence across the wider network team.
* Deliver project tasks, including installation and configuration of new network equipment.
* Design and implement new infrastructure platforms and associated documentation (HLD/LLD, support documents).
What Experience You’ll Bring:
* Strong practical knowledge of multiple network technologies, backed by current multi-vendor certifications (associate/professional level).
* Experience in deploying and managing networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN, VPN).
* Hands-on expertise with networking hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).
* Deep understanding of communication protocols, especially TCP/IP.
* Solid experience with Layer 2/3 technologies: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VRF, DNS, DHCP, NAT, Spanning-Tree.
* Advanced threat protection expertise, including:
* Antivirus
* IPS
* Antispyware
* Vulnerability protection
* URL filtering
* File blocking
* Proficiency with the following network platforms:
* Cisco ISE, Firepower, ASA, Routers, Switches, Wireless Controllers
* HPE Aruba Switches
* FortiGate, Palo Alto, and Checkpoint Firewalls
* Experience with diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools (e.g., SolarWinds, ManageEngine, DNAC).
* Familiarity with copper and fibre cabling.
* Solid knowledge of network operating systems (Cisco IOS/IOS-XE/NX-OS, Aruba OS, FortiOS).
* Strong troubleshooting skills across multi-site and multi-disciplinary environments.
* Collaborative experience in team-based and remote working setups.
* Familiarity with ITIL framework.
* Ability to mentor team members on technical issues.
* Knowledge of scripting/automation languages (e.g., Python, Perl) is beneficial.
* Previous experience within a multi-client or solution provider environment is advantageous.
