Offer description

Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN), John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford, OX3 9DU This is an exciting opportunity to join the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences as a Course Tutor to support the delivery of the new University of Oxford MSc Programme in Pain Neurosciences. This programme forms an important part of the Oxford Pain Network (), a growing community of researchers and clinicians across the university and NHS. The programme will largely be taught online, with two residential weeks in Oxford. The programme aims to provide a comprehensive coverage of Pain Neurosciences, ranging from basic to clinical science with a focus on chronic pain conditions. Online content (e.g. recorded lectures, reading material, activities) will be covered by the students in their own time. This will be supplemented by live online sessions (via Teams) for students to interact with each other and teaching staff. The programme is made up of 5 taught modules, each covering an academic term and a research project to be conducted remotely or in person. The successful candidate will have a research or clinical background in pain. The candidate will be expected to teach across a broad range of pain topics, as well as research design, methodology and analysis. They will work closely with the course organising team (director and co-directors) and submodule leads to develop online content and coordinate teaching, as well as monitor online discussion forums and deliver weekly online live sessions. These sessions may involve setting class assignments, marking, and feeding-back to students about their performance. The successful candidate will be involved in the continued development of topic modules. The candidate will also be expected to support the examination and marking process, course admissions, provide pastoral support to students and attend relevant committee meetings. Residential weeks will form a key part of the course (one in year 1, one in year 2). Students will be accommodated in an Oxford college and attend hands-on workshops covering basic and clinical aspects of pain research and management. It is expected that the successful candidate will support the organisation and implementation of the residential weeks, working closely with course administrators, college staff, members of the Oxford pain community as well as external experts. The candidate will be supported to develop their teaching skills as part of the post, with dedicated time set aside to attend relevant training courses. The post is full time for a fixed term of until 30th September 2030 in the first instance.
