Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Oxfordshire

Are you looking to develop your career as a children's Speech and Language Therapist, perhaps looking to develop your experience in SEN and special school settings?

Are you looking to work as part of a supportive team in a flexible working environment?

You will be joining the Children's Integrated Therapy (CIT) team at an exciting juncture as we implement a new service structure and therapy model. Our vacancies are in the south of the county and North/North west of the county, for enthusiastic, dynamic and highly motivated therapists to join our teams.

The role is advertised as a varied full-time position however we welcome applications for part-time positions. There are sessions available in primary and mainstream schools, as well as special schools and a resource base for children with autism. Please be advised this a 6 month Fixed Term contract.


Main duties of the job

Working alongside experienced colleagues you would support band 5 and band 4 colleagues. You would support children on our core clinical pathways (Speech Sound Disorders, Language Difficulties, Social Communication) with the opportunity to do some work with our fluency specialist on the Stammering pathway.

The SLT team is made up of Band 5 and 6 Therapists, Technical Assistants, Apprentices, and both Specialist Team Leads and Specialist Clinical Leads (Band 7). We provide Speech and Language Therapy for children and young people aged 0 - 19 years across Oxfordshire in a range of settings. The Service delivery model is based on six Clinical Pathways and underpinned by the current evidence base.

You will have opportunities to work alongside other members of the CIT team - Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and CIT Assistant Practitioners, as well as collaborating with the wider MDT in Education, Health and Social Services. We also have close links with SLTs at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, where specialist services such as the Regional Cleft Palate and Cochlear Implant service are based.

You will have your own caseload to manage and prioritise, delivering timely assessment and intervention packages, contributing to the SEND process, engaging in clinical meetings and delivering training to staff and parents.

Job responsibilities

Oxfordshire Children's Integrated Therapy Service is made up of Children's Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, profession specific Therapy Instructors, Integrated Therapy Assistant Practitioners and an Administrative Team. We are jointly commissioned by the ICB and Oxfordshire County Council. The Service is led by Operational Managers and Professional Leads for each Therapy.

Therapy teams have strong links with education colleagues, paediatricians, and AHP's across Oxford Health Trust.

We offer a comprehensive induction programme, ongoing supervision (both group and individual) and appraisal with development reviews from experienced specialist staff, regular in house training as well as opportunities for involvement in Service Development.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively engage in the Trust's supervision and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Diploma / degree in Speech and Language Therapy HCPC registration (or pending) RCSLT registration (or pending)
* Experience at Band 6 level or equivalent
* Speciality specific post graduate courses

* UK Driving Licence and use of vehicle for travelling during working hours


skills/experience

* Experience of working with children and young people with speech and language / communication needs
* Up to date with evidence-based practice, national guidelines and new research
* Experience of Therapy Outcome Measures, TOMS and specific assessment tools for children.
* Experience of managing and prioritising a caseload.
* Involvement in audit or research
* Experience in line management of staff
