The Vacancy
The Research Engineer (RE) role focuses on the technical delivery of projects and supports the development of project-related activities across The MTC, working across various technology departments and industrial sectors.
This role reports to the Metal AM team lead within the broader Additive Manufacturing team structure. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in both the AM team and wider MTC to deliver cutting-edge research projects across multiple industrial sectors. Additionally, this role involves working closely with the MTC’s AM Operations team in the AM facility to support practical project delivery.
This role may involve project activities in the Defence sector; candidates should be willing and able to work in this area and undergo additional security vetting if required.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Supply technical deliverables for larger projects and act as Technical Lead for smaller projects when required, ensuring work meets or exceeds customer requirements within budgets and timescales.
2. Undertake innovative engineering research focused on technology/manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MRL) 3+ with demonstrated industrial project delivery.
3. Contribute to the identification, technical specification, and delivery of new and novel technology capabilities for the MTC, customers, or industrial partners.
4. Participate in all aspects of project delivery, including concept generation, detailed design, compliance with standards, technical support during commissioning, and managing project budgets and deliverables.
Person Specification
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience:
* Technical background and experience with metal additive manufacturing processes, preferably Laser-Powder Bed Fusion or Binder Jetting.
* Knowledge of the full metal AM process chain.
* Proactive problem solver, demonstrating agility and flexibility in approach and technical skills.
