The Pharmacy department has a strong clinical presence with over 100 members serving around 400 beds across medical, surgical and specialist areas, plus outpatient clinics. The department is innovative with investments in robotics and state‑of‑the‑art dispensaries and technical services. An electronic prescribing system has been implemented to support service development and innovation.
Main duties and responsibilities
Following a thorough induction you will join our team of ward‑based clinical pharmacists. The role includes:
* To participate in the provision of a full pharmaceutical service to the Cardiology and Respiratory wards.
* To practice as a fully registered non‑medical independent prescriber (following appropriate training).
* To develop, implement, monitor and evaluate protocols and guidelines within the Cardiology and Respiratory specialist areas.
* To lead and develop the pharmacy service on the Cardiology and Respiratory wards, demonstrating strong leadership and service development skills, and exercising advanced clinical skills by participating in ward rounds and MDT discussions. Strong communication and teamwork are essential as you will work with a wide range of healthcare professionals.

Knowledge and experience (Essential)
* Extensive knowledge and experience of working within hospital pharmacy.
* Knowledge of Medicines & Pharmacy Legislation, professional ethics, Health and Safety and the wider Health Service.
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance, Medicines Management, Risk Management, NICE guidelines, National Service Frameworks, Shared Care Guidelines and the modernisation agenda relevant to the post.
* Knowledge of theoretical and practical issues, including professional guidelines, related to use of medicines and practice of pharmacy in the specialist areas.
* Understanding and practical experience of audit.
Desirable
* Computer literate.

Qualifications (Essential)
* Vocational Masters degree in pharmacy.

* Independent Prescribing qualification.
Experience (Essential)
* Extensive post‑qualification experience of hospital pharmacy service delivery, either from employment within the hospital service.
* Continuing Professional Development to the mandatory requirements of the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Training and experience including dispensary services, clinical pharmacy and medicines information.
Additional experience (Desirable)
* Previous pharmacy teaching experience.
* Previous experience in staff management.
* Previous experience in cardiology / respiratory areas.
