We aim to provide engineers and buyers of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment with the best possible range of quality products, the most helpful technical advice, fast responsive delivery and outstanding value for money. ​ We are looking to recruit a Hydraulic Sales Engineer with a focus on business development in the North West region. You will be responsible for driving sales growth and providing technical support. The Sales Engineer serves as a key role in driving sales for technical products and services. This position blends technical knowledge with sales expertise, as the Sales Engineer must understand complex products and communicate their benefits effectively to potential customers. The role involves identifying new opportunities, preparing proposals, providing after-sales support, and reporting both internally and externally. By leveraging strong technical and sales skills, the Sales Engineer helps the company expand its market reach and deliver solutions that meet customer needs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Sales and Business Development: Identify and pursue sales opportunities with new and existing customers, promoting our products and services to meet their hydraulic and fluid power needs. Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and influencers within customer organisations. Develop and implement strategic sales plans and initiatives to achieve sales targets and revenue growth objectives. Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, serving as their trusted advisor on hydraulic asset management and hose survey matters. Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs, address their concerns, and provide timely and responsive service. Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling additional services or products to customers based on their hydraulic asset management needs. Comply with company health safety policies and procedures and, as applicable, ensure safe use and maintenance of all equipment and fully utilise all safety items within the legal and H&S requirements. Hydraulic Asset Management: Develop and implement hydraulic asset management programs for customers, including inventory tracking, maintenance scheduling, and performance monitoring. Conduct assessments of customers hydraulic systems to identify opportunities for improvement and optimisation. Collaborate with customers to develop customised asset management strategies to maximise the lifespan and efficiency of their hydraulic equipment. Hose Surveys and Inspections: Assist service engineers with onsite hose surveys and inspections at customer facilities to assess the condition, integrity, and performance of hydraulic hoses. Document findings and recommendations for hose repair, replacement, or maintenance, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. Provide customers with detailed reports and analysis of hose survey findings, including cost estimates and prioritised action plans. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of service activities, including risk assessments, service reports, inspection findings, and customer communications. Provide regular updates and reports to management on service activities, customer feedback, and sales opportunities. KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts. Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and sales closing skills. Ability to manage time effectively, juggle multiple projects, and meet deadlines. ​ KEY COMPETENCIES / CAPABILITIES Technical Expertise: In-depth understanding of the company's products and services, especially their technical specifications, applications, and industry use cases. Ability to translate complex technical details into customer-friendly language. Sales and Negotiation Skills: Strong ability to build relationships, present products, negotiate terms, and close sales. Ability to generate and qualify leads and manage the entire sales cycle. Comfort in negotiating complex deals involving both technical and commercial elements. Problem-Solving and Customer Focus: Ability to identify customer pain points and offer effective solutions that meet both technical and business requirements. Strong customer service skills, ensuring customers feel valued before, during, and after the sales process. Communication and Presentation: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proficient in creating and delivering product demonstrations and technical presentations. Project Management and Organisation: Ability to manage multiple sales projects simultaneously, coordinating with internal teams to meet customer requirements and deadlines. Skilled in preparing proposals, quotations, and project plans while keeping track of project timelines. Market Knowledge: Strong understanding of the market dynamics, customer needs, and competitor landscape in the relevant industry. Ability to adapt sales strategies based on market conditions and customer requirements. ​ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Working pattern: 40 hours, Monday to Friday between 8am-4:30pm, with 30 minutes unpaid lunch break. Located at head office: 71-73 Regent Road, Kirkdale, Liverpool, L5 9SY, Holiday entitlement: 23 days plus bank holidays. (Increasing to 25 after 12 months) Travel between FPS branches and group companies, nationally, to build on the inter trading relationships or training may be required where necessary.
