UNIX/LINUX Cloud Engineer – Leeds
Role overview: We are recruiting a UNIX | Linux | Cloud Engineer to join our growing team in Leeds. This hybrid role will work from our office three days a week and perform a wide range of responsibilities across Linux administration, virtualization, cloud infrastructure and automation.

Responsibilities
* Administration of RHEL 7/8/9: installation, patching, upgrades and lifecycle management
* System performance tuning, troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis
* User, group, permissions and SELinux management
* Filesystem and storage management (LVM, XFS, ext4, NFS)
* Support of physical and virtual Linux servers in enterprise environments
* Experience with VMware and Red Hat Virtualization platforms
* Backup, recovery and capacity‑planning support
* Bash scripting for operational automation
* Creation and maintenance of Ansible playbooks and roles
* Standardisation and reduction of configuration drift
* Azure Linux Virtual Machines and storage services
* Azure networking: VNets, NSGs, Load Balancers, VPN integration
* Hybrid connectivity between on‑prem and Azure, including identity and DNS integration
* Container fundamentals using Docker and Podman
* AKS cluster operations, scaling and node management
* Workload deployment, persistent storage and monitoring on Kubernetes
* OpenShift cluster operations and platform support on ARO
* AD/SSSD integration, RBAC and storage configuration
* OS hardening, access control and certificate management
* Platform monitoring, logging and alerting
* Incident, change and problem management in production environments
Candidate profile
* Experienced system administrator with hands‑on support for Unix/Linux and cloud–based systems, familiar with RHEL 5‑9 and other yum‑based distributions
* Strong collaboration skills with application support and development teams to implement infrastructure for business systems
* Proficient in Linux integration, Active Directory/SSSD, log management and performance tuning (e.g., sysctl.conf)
* Solid understanding of OS hardening practices to enhance system security
* Experienced in virtualization (VMware vSphere), Kubernetes (AKS/OpenShift) and cloud environments (Azure, GCP)
* Experience with container technologies (Azure Container Store or Artifactory) and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab
* Proficient in scripting with Bash, PowerShell, PowerCLI and Perl for automation and integration tasks
* Strong documentation skills and ability to explain technical solutions to non‑technical audiences
* Flexible, prioritises work effectively and adapts to agile or waterfall methodologies
