Job Title: Senior Cargo Claims Handler
Overview
An experienced and detail-oriented Senior Cargo Claims Handler is sought to manage complex cargo claims across multiple lines of business. This role involves overseeing the full lifecycle of claims, from initial notification through to resolution, while ensuring high standards of technical accuracy, client service, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on intricate cases and supporting junior team members.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a portfolio of high-value and complex cargo claims, including investigation, evaluation, and settlement.
* Review policy coverage, liability, and quantum to determine appropriate claim outcomes.
* Liaise with clients, brokers, insurers, surveyors, and legal representatives to progress claims efficiently.
* Appoint and manage external experts such as surveyors, adjusters, and legal counsel where required.
* Negotiate settlements in line with authority levels and organizational guidelines.
* Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all claim activities within internal systems.
* Monitor claims trends and provide insights or recommendations to mitigate risk exposure.
* Support audits, compliance checks, and adherence to regulatory standards.
* Mentor and provide technical support to junior claims handlers.
* Contribute to process improvements and best practice initiatives within the claims function.
Skills and Experience
* Significant experience handling cargo or marine claims, including complex and high-value cases.
* Strong understanding of policy wordings, coverage interpretation, and liability principles.
* Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Proven ability to manage multiple claims while maintaining attention to detail and deadlines.
* Experience working with international stakeholders and cross-border claims is advantageous.
* Familiarity with claims management systems and reporting tools.
* Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Qualifications
* Relevant industry qualifications or certifications in insurance, maritime, or logistics (preferred).
* Strong academic background or equivalent professional experience.
