Our client is a leading provider of construction safety solutions with a diverse client base in Rail & Construction, Power, Transmission, Manufacturing, and Distribution. They are currently seeking an experienced Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality professional to recruit a SHEQ Manager at their site in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.
This role requires a hands-on approach, involving site visits, mentoring staff, and providing SHEQ advice to clients.
Responsibilities include assessing the effectiveness of orientations, reviewing worksite assessments, and evaluating publications that promote quality, occupational health, safety, and environmental policies. The individual will set goals, create initiatives based on performance data related to quality, health, safety, and environmental aspects.
Key Accountabilities as SHEQ Manager:
* Provide overall administration, technical guidance, and leadership in complying with all regulatory SHEQ requirements.
* Support operational leadership in promoting safe operational practices.
* Implement SHEQ policies and procedures in line with group, local, rules, and regulations.
* Plan and deliver safety training programs (e.g., Manual Handling, Working at Heights) to ensure proficiency and improve safety culture.
* Conduct assurance audits to ensure safety policies and procedures are followed.
* Lead process improvement activities to resolve SHEQ issues, inspecting worksites to identify hazards and close gaps.
* Assist in accident investigations, recommending corrective and preventative measures.
* Communicate hazards and risks to managers, employees, and contractors effectively.
* Maintain safety and environmental records, working with HR to ensure relevant training.
* Engage regularly with operations to monitor trends and inform HSE management programs.
* Serve as the local point of contact for all SHEQ matters.
The Ideal Person for the SHEQ Manager role:
* Certified by a recognized Occupational Health and Safety Institute.
* Proven experience in a field service or construction environment focused on SHEQ.
* Experience in developing SHEQ manuals, procedures, and work instructions.
* Experience in SHEQ training and assessment programs.
* Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards.
* NEBOSH General/Construction Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
* Understanding of Health and Safety laws and ISO standards (ISO 45001, 9001, 14001).
* Experience with site inspections, RAMS, and CDM Regulations.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, collaborative mindset, and solution-oriented approach.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
