Fixed term Maternity cover (Expired 27th October)

Fixed term. Maternity cover. Expires 27th October. The successful postholder will work out of our brand new community diagnostic centre. To act as highly specialised cardiac physiologist. To perform and report independently on echocardiography exams to BSE standard.

To support junior staff in the accreditation process and to assist with quality assurance.

To assist with all aspects of operational activities at the CDC with regards to cardiology.

Band 6 candidates will be considered if working towards BSE accreditation.


Main duties of the job

* Provide expert knowledge in highly specialist clinical areas and without supervision carry out a broad range of complex echocardiography
* Perform and report transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) to BSE standard
* Analyse, interpret and write reports for the above clinical procedures based on knowledge and experience of normal and abnormal criteria.
* Provide specialist advice to clinicians regarding results to enable further development of individual care plans.
* Lead in the support of all cardiac physiologists in training
* Effectively and professionally deal with emergency situations.
* Continue to develop highly specialist knowledge and experience including sufficient CPD to maintain professional registration
* Have responsibility for stock control in designated areas ensure stock levels are maintained appropriately and tracking of high value items.
* Adhere to Trust policies and procedures
* Actively maintain a safe working environment in accordance with H&S and COSHH policies.
* Maintain adherence to relevant guidelines for infectious diseases including staying up-to-date with donning and doffing of appropriate PPE.
* Undertake any other reasonable duties at the discretion of the Lead Cardiac Physiologist or General Manager of the CDC.


Job responsibilities

Use specialist expertise underpinned by theory and experience to provide a high level of specialist technical and clinical expertise in a wide range of advanced diagnostic tests and procedures. To liaise effectively with service managers and other physiologists to provide a clinical physiological service. Ensuring a high level of clinical excellence and patient care.

Perform transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) using manual dexterity and precision, exercising specialist judgement when acquiring images.

Produce a full, accurate and comprehensive clinical report independently for each study, which will directly affect patient care and/or management. Responsibility for own caseload.

Responsible together with the other Band 7 Physiologist for the operational responsibility of the department on a day to day basis. This includes a clinical workload (i.e. performing and/or reporting on all non-invasive tests) as well as day to day supervision of the junior staff.

Take a leading role in staff development and training as required.

Successfully liaise on operational matters with the Heart Centre at Darent Valley Hospital.


Person Specification


Education

* BSc Clinical Physiology Degree or BSc Healthcare Science or MSc in Clinical Science (Cardiac Science)
* Scientific knowledge acquired by Degree in clinical physiology. Membership to professional body acquired by examination either BSE (postgraduate diploma level)
* BSE accreditation
* Registered with Academy of Healthcare Science or voluntarily registered with the Health Professions Council to practice as a Cardiac Clinical Physiologist‑RCCP
* Relevant accredited courses Masters in Echocardiography


Knowledge and experience

* Previous experience of teaching formally/informally
* Highly developed specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and in-depth experience in technical Cardiology with advanced
* Knowledge of at least two disciplines of technical Cardiology acquired with proven experience
* 1–2 years post BSE Accreditation
* 3 years’ experience at a Senior level of independent practice
* Experience of supervision of junior staff
* Evidence of assisting in identifying and implementing service improvement
* Able to draw upon a broad range of clinical knowledge
* Experience of 12 L and ambulatory ECG analysis


Clinical

* Detailed knowledge of all Cardiac investigations including highly specialised procedures.
* Understand national and local guidelines and procedures required to perform clinical tests and demonstrate that they can carry these out to the required standards.
