Job Purpose
The Lead Occupational Therapist will provide specialist, client‑centred assessments and interventions to support people with disabilities in achieving their maximum level of functional independence. The role involves leading and supporting the development of the Disability Resource Team, delivering high‑quality professional assessments, and ensuring effective, cost‑efficient provision of equipment and adaptations.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive assessments and deliver appropriate, client‑centred interventions to support individuals with disabilities in achieving maximum independence.
* Supervise and support the development of Disability Resource Team staff including Occupational Therapy Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Sensory, Duty, Joiners, and Blue Badge staff.
* Provide professional assessments, advice, and training to service users, carers, relatives, and other professionals regarding core and specialist equipment.
* Assess complex clients and make recommendations for both major and minor housing adaptations to maximise resources and improve functional independence.
* Prescribe and provide specialist equipment to meet complex needs in a cost‑effective manner.
* Assess and provide appropriate moving and handling provisions, including equipment prescription and demonstration, to support safe care delivery.
* Expedite and facilitate timely hospital discharges through effective assessment and intervention.
* Deliver reablement interventions aimed at helping service users regain functional independence.
* Carry out independent mobility assessments to support the provision of Blue Badges.
* Undertake specialist Occupational Therapy assessments within prison settings and in response to care management requests.
* Support continuing professional development (CPD) within the team to maintain and enhance skills and knowledge.
Person Specification
Qualifications: Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy; current registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Experience: Significant post‑qualification experience in occupational therapy, including working with complex cases and supervising staff.
Skills & Knowledge:
* Strong assessment and intervention planning skills.
* Knowledge of specialist equipment and housing adaptations.
* Ability to lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Fluency in English.
