Manufacturing Engineer (Metallics)

Location: Darwen

Job Type: Permanent, 37 hours per week (4-day working week across a 5-day operational week)

Hourly Rate: Competitive, dependent on experience

A leading manufacturer within the aerospace sector is seeking a talented and experienced Manufacturing Engineer (Metallics) to join its dynamic engineering team. The business is recognised globally for delivering advanced metal and composite components for both civil and defence aerospace applications, operating to world-class standards of quality, innovation, and precision engineering.

Role Summary

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and optimising manufacturing processes for metallic materials and components used in aerospace applications. You will ensure that production is efficient, cost-effective, and consistently meets the highest quality standards. This position requires a strong technical background in metallics, process engineering, and a detailed understanding of aerospace manufacturing requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and optimise manufacturing processes for metallic materials and components, ensuring full alignment with engineering specifications and aerospace standards.
Collaborate with design, engineering, and production teams to refine manufacturing methods, including machining, forming, and bonding processes.
Design and implement tooling, fixtures, and production equipment to support efficient and precise manufacturing operations.
Conduct process trials, validations, and capability studies to confirm that methods meet performance, quality, and cost objectives.
Identify and resolve manufacturing issues related to materials, tooling, or process flow.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing productivity, reducing waste, and enhancing overall quality.
Work closely with Quality Assurance to maintain compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, and other relevant aerospace standards.
Create and maintain comprehensive process documentation, including work instructions, specifications, and quality control plans.
Stay current with industry advancements in metallic materials and manufacturing technologies, implementing innovative practices where appropriate.
Provide technical support and training to production teams on manufacturing best practices and process optimisation.

Requirements

Degree or HNC with an Advanced Apprenticeship (NVQ Level 3) in a relevant engineering discipline.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in metallic materials manufacturing, preferably within the aerospace sector.
Strong understanding of machining, forming, and assembly processes for metallic components.
Proficiency in CAD software for tooling, fixture, and process design.
In-depth knowledge of aerospace quality standards including AS9100, NADCAP, and FAA/EASA regulations.
Demonstrable problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex production issues.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities, capable of collaborating effectively across engineering, production, and quality functions.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
