Overview
As Assistant Team Manager in our Duty & Assessment team, you’ll play a pivotal leadership role, guiding and inspiring a small group of Social Workers dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of children and their families. Your team will focus on high-quality assessments and creating effective, child-centred plans that provide both statutory support and preventative services.
You’ll champion best practice, offering both guidance and challenge to your team, ensuring that every child’s voice is heard and their needs are placed at the heart of decision-making. By combining strong leadership with your passion for safeguarding, you’ll empower your Social Workers to deliver timely, thoughtful interventions that lead to lasting positive change.
Responsibilities
* Leading a team, undertaking line management, performance management and change management duties.
* Build strong partnerships, maintaining relationships and co-producing solutions to challenges across a diverse set of stakeholders, including children, young people and their families.
* Take a lead for specific areas of practice improvement across all of children’s social care.
* Have management of the budget and expenditure of the team by providing relevant information and seeking approval for specific service costs.
* Respond to informal and/or formal complaints in accordance with Stage 1 of the Complaints Procedure, as delegated by the Team Manager.
Qualifications
* You’ll be a qualified Social Worker (DipSW, CQSW, CSS or Degree Level) with current registration with Social Work England, bringing a strong foundation of professional knowledge and a passion for safeguarding children.
* Additional qualifications such as PQ1/PQ2 or management/supervisory training are desirable, and will support your ability to lead with confidence and expertise.
* Your practice will be grounded in a deep understanding of safeguarding and child protection, informed by current legislation, guidance, and research. You’ll know how to translate this into meaningful action, ensuring the welfare of children is at the centre of every decision.
* As a natural leader and role model, you’ll have the ability to balance strategic oversight with practical decision-making—from effectively prioritising complex workloads to allocating cases within the Duty & Assessment Team.
