Work type: Fixed term contract until April 2026
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: Up to £34,100.00 per annum
We are currently recruiting for the above role, internally known as Bioresources System Capacity Planner within the Wastewater Treatment & Maintenance function to control the production, quality and transportation of waste material within a defined operational region. In this highly empowering role, you will create value by working to eliminate variability in the operation of Southern Water’s integrated Bioresources system.
Responsibilities
* Maintain and execute all tankering/logistics plans within a defined operational region and develop a framework for a “closed loop” planning system, whereby production sites supply inputs to meet the demands of fixed reception facilities.
* Monitor process parameters at sludge production and reception sites and make scheduling and routing decisions based on asset availability and constraints.
* Develop forward-looking plans by understanding site processes and capacity restrictions and maintaining relationships with site managers and operators.
* Maintain a programme of upcoming planned maintenance activities and incorporate them into forward plans.
* Produce daily activity schedules for the operational region and publish schedules for execution by the waste recycling service provider or tankering contractor.
* Report on plan compliance and escalate poor performance to the Bioresources Manager or service provider.
* Monitor inventory levels at production and reception sites to maintain adequate storage capacity and operational resilience, ensuring wastewater treatment standards are met.
* Observe liquid sludge concentration using instrumentation or data analysis where available.
* Track performance over time, intervene to maintain optimal performance, identify persistent underperformance, and contribute to process improvements.
* Partner with site owners and operators to promote shared ownership of plans and schedules.
In this autonomous role, you will trigger extra resources to maintain storage capacity and make operational judgments based on supply/demand balance within the Bioresources system. You will assess risk related to stock holdings, considering sludge concentration, volume, and haulage costs.
Qualifications and skills
* Good organisation and process management skills in a highly operational environment.
* Experience in logistics or transport management is beneficial.
* Strong problem-solving and planning abilities with a methodical approach to ensure regulatory compliance.
* Ability to respond to emerging customer, compliance, or operational events as part of Southern Water’s Incident Response framework.
