Overview
Lead Transport Planner position for a well-established haulage business near Otley, to lead a busy and evolving transport planning function.
* Location - Near Otley, West Yorkshire
* Salary - £40,000 to £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
* Hours - 45-hour week, Monday to Friday
* Weekend Cover - 1 in 3 weekends (Saturday morning on-site + on-call phone cover)
About the Role
As Lead Transport Planner, you’ll manage the day-to-day planning of articulated vehicles and drivers, ensuring efficient operations and great service, and be central to keeping things running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
* Create and adjust driver routes to optimise time, fuel, and service delivery
* Monitor and respond to changes such as traffic delays, cancellations, and customer amendments
* Assign vehicle and driver schedules with a focus on legal compliance and commercial efficiency
* Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and other departments
* Support ongoing improvement and help lead a planning team through growth and development
What You’ll Need
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in transport planning
* At least 2 years in general haulage
* Experience planning 20+ vehicles
* Excellent understanding of driver hours and working time regulations
* Strong IT and planning system skills
* Calm, organised, and confident working under pressure
