As a Data Privacy Advisor at Barclays, you will provide data privacy advisory support to the various Barclays UK business areas, working as part of a first‑line team with oversight and strategic responsibility for key privacy activities that present a privacy risk across BUK (Barclays UK). This involves working closely with BUK business teams and other BUK data stakeholders (e.g., governance, risk & controls partners). You will also collaborate with key colleagues across Barclays to provide sound data privacy advice and support with related assurance activities, incidents/issues, breaches, and risk events, ensuring they are appropriately reported, recorded and monitored.
This role can be based in London (1CP) or Manchester (4PP).
Purpose of the role
To develop and implement data privacy policies, procedures and monitoring the adherence to these policies across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
* Identification and assessment of potential risks related to data privacy and implementation of measures to mitigate these risks and enhance overall data protection.
* Development and implementation of an effective incident response plan for data breaches and coordination with relevant teams to investigate and address incidents promptly.
* Provision of data privacy training and awareness to employees, educating them about their data privacy obligations and how to manage personal data securely.
* Identification of areas for improvement and implementation of enhancements to the data privacy programme.
* Development and implementation of Barclays Data Privacy strategy aligned with the bank's business objectives and regulatory requirements.
* Definition and enforcement of data privacy policies and procedures to ensure data protection, security and compliance.
* Partnering with stakeholders to drive improvements in the understanding, appropriate use and protection of personal data.
* Development and maintenance of a comprehensive data privacy governance framework aligned with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Qualifications
* Advising and/or managing data privacy issues.
* Sound understanding of the UK Data Protection Regime.
* Ability to manage and influence stakeholders.
* Professional privacy certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (e.g., CIPP/E).
* Experience with handling data breaches or technology‑related incidents.
* Working within a large complex organisation.
* Strong organisational skills.
* Certifications in data privacy, law, compliance, information risk or information technology.
* Knowledge of risk and controls framework.
* Previous business, compliance or legal experience.
