We wish to recruit a Senior Clinical Knee Fellow (post CCT Trust Doctor) to join the surgical team at Chapel Allerton Elective Orthopaedic Centre. We have two posts available, one to start in August 2025 and the other February 2026.
The successful candidates will be expected to receive advanced clinical and surgical training in the management of knee conditions including arthroscopy, soft tissue reconstruction, arthroplasty and salvage procedures. This is NOT a complex revision knee arthroplasty post. You will be expected to take part in research studies as appropriate and help with the departmental audit and database. Undergraduate and post graduate teaching will also be required.
The Knee Fellow will also take and organise tertiary referrals and take a role in the delivery of the Knee injury clinic. This role would give experience in management of a range of complex knee conditions including patellofemoral problems, complex ligament reconstructive work, chondral surgeries and meniscus pathologies.
There are no routine on-call commitments and therefore this post does not attract a banding supplement; however, there may be occasions when you are required to alter your working arrangements to support the service to meet its demands.
The proposed job plan/timetable is open to negotiation based on ongoing service changes.
Main duties of the job
You will be working primarily at Chapel Allerton Hospital. The Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery provides Trauma and Elective services to Leeds residents and beyond. A regional service is provided for spine and scoliosis surgery, complex and revision arthroplasty, hand surgery, paediatric surgery, foot and ankle surgery and both acute trauma and post traumatic reconstructive surgery. All trauma is admitted to the Leeds General Infirmary. The Trauma referral base is now from the whole of the Yorkshire Region, a population of approximately 3.5 million. Particular specialist services provided are spinal injuries, open fractures, post injury limb reconstruction and complex fracture work. There is a specific interest in polytrauma and many peripheral units refer most of their multiple injuries straight to Leeds General Infirmary on day one. This post is designed to support this well established trauma service. The referral base is continuing to develop and grow and forms the basis of the new Trauma Centre at Leeds General Infirmary

Complex and revision lower limb arthroplasty, upper limb and foot and ankle surgery are provided at Chapel Allerton Hospital. Leeds General Infirmary has 3 orthogeriatric wards, one trauma ward, one paediatric ward including 2 paediatric HDU beds, one spinal surgery ward and a four bedded HDU shared with plastic surgery. There are 2 trauma theatres running all day lists and one spine theatre. All trauma outpatients are seen in a dedicated fracture clinic with supporting radiology facilities and the A&E Department are on the ground floor of the same building. Chapel Allerton Hospital has 2 dedicated orthopaedic rehabilitation wards and one 14bedded post-operative care ward. There are 3 dedicated orthopaedic clean air theatres. The rehabilitation wards are focused on rapid post op rehabilitation with a large dedicated Physiotherapy and Occupation Therapy team. All elective orthopaedic outpatients are seen at Chapel Allerton Hospital with supporting radiology facilities including an MRI scanner in the near future.
