We are looking for an experienced and proactive Reactive & Planned Service Engineer to join our Fire, Security & TECS team. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out both emergency reactive call-outs and scheduled preventative maintenance across a range of life safety, security, and telecom systems.
This role requires strong fault-finding ability, excellent customer service skills, and the capability to work independently across multiple sites while maintaining high compliance and safety standards.
The Job you’ll do
* Respond to emergency call-outs within agreed SLAs.
* Be part of an out of hours support team.
* Diagnose and rectify faults across fire, security, and telecom systems.
* Provide temporary and permanent solutions to system failures.
* Complete detailed service reports and documentation.
* Communicate clearly with clients regarding system status and required remedial works.
* Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM):
* Carry out routine servicing and inspections in line with industry standards and contracts.
* Test and inspect fire alarm systems (conventional and addressable).
* Service intruder alarms, CCTV (IP & analogue), and access control systems.
* Maintain TECS including structured cabling, intercoms, and associated infrastructure.
* Identify and report system deficiencies and recommend remedial actions.
* Systems Experience
* Fire Alarm Systems (BS5839 compliant)
* Intruder Alarms
* CCTV Systems (IP-based systems preferred)
* Access Control Systems
* Emergency Lighting (BS5266 compliant)
* TECS / Structured Cabling / Door Entry Systems
About You
Essential:
* Proven experience in servicing fire and security systems.
* Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
* Knowledge of relevant British Standards and industry regulations.
* Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Good IT skills for digital reporting systems.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Desirable
* FIA qualification or relevant fire & security certifications.
* ECS/CSCS card.
* IPAF/PASMA.
* Experience with major manufacturers’ systems.
* Knowledge of SSAIB or NSI compliance requirements.
* Personal Attributes.
* Highly organised and self-motivated.
* Professional and client-focused.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Calm under pressure during emergency call-outs.
* Flexible with out-of-hours work and on-call rota.
