Offer description

Team Vicar for the Saints' Churches, Wisbech with Walsoken

We seek an enthusiastic mission-minded priest with a pastoral heart and passion for ministry in parishes at the heart of the Fenlands.

St Augustine, Wisbech,
one of our 3 church congregations

We seek a priest who will thrive serving as part of a Team where a culture of collaborative leadership is developing within the recently formed Saints Churches. You can anticipate an engaging, stimulating, and fulfilling ministry experience with us, alongside opportunities to serve in new and exciting ways.

You will contribute towards sustaining existing church life, but in a creative and missional way. You will assist lay ministers to develop; support and grow existing work amongst children, young people, families and households; and create innovative community partnerships with a view to forming new worshipping communities. To do this you will be able to tailor God’s message to diverse audiences. A warm approachable manner is an absolute necessity.

We need an inspiring teacher who is humble in nature yet able to identify and grow people’s ministry. More than any of these things, we pray for someone who will laugh alongside us, share our tears, understand our fears, and advocate for Jesus in every action they do. Being perfectly imperfect is okay.

We welcome those who are willing to grow, challenge and evolve their ministry, and share that journey alongside us. You will be passionate about reaching into our communities, whilst also working alongside existing congregations to identify new and inclusive ways to share the gospel. You will not be alone in this journey as you will have the full support of our experienced Team Rector and a dynamic leadership team.

Working cooperatively across the three parishes is an important aspect of this role. You will do this in consultation with our Team Rector and other members of the Ministry Team. You will lead both inherited and Fresh Expression models of worship on Sunday and other days. There is an expectation you will become involved in community events, be part of our growing schools ministry, and undertake weddings, baptisms, and funerals as necessary. This will be a diverse, fulfilling and evolving role.

Safer Recruitment in the Diocese of Ely

The Diocese of Ely is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all employees to undertake safeguarding checks and training relevant to their role and to adhere to the. Therefore, this position is subject to an enhanced disclosure from the DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service).

Our Diocese:

The Diocese of Ely stretches from Cambridge to Peterborough and out towards the coastal areas of West Norfolk. It houses 3/4 million people, which will rise to 1 million in the next 15 years. This area buzzes with energy from the academic, business and medical excellence of Cambridge University to the rich agricultural areas of Huntingdon, Fenland and Norfolk.

Despite the presence of a world leading university, Cambridgeshire is not all affluent. Towns and cities have pockets of poverty and low attainment. Rural areas can be isolated and insular. The churches are strong in some places, but there is much work to be done.

The Diocese of Ely is a good place to live and work: stable finances, good housing, inclusive and warm hearted senior leaders, coupled with a rich diversity of benefices in all traditions make this a place that clergy stay once they have discovered us. We have just over 110 incumbent status clergy, with a strong Diocesan team, and a real emphasis on lay development and training.

As we await the arrival of our new Diocesan Bishop, Rt Rev Sarah Clark, the diocese remains on a steady course. Our Mission Strategy devolves much decision making to the parishes, benefices and deaneries, so that clergy are able to innovate, take risks and build alliances for the sake of the Kingdom of God and the good of our communities. We welcome applications from clergy who are prepared to work collaboratively and faithfully. We will enable you to flourish and grow in ministry, whilst maintaining a sensible work life balance. Wisbech Town centre in bloom A Diverse and Inclusive Workforce

The Diocese of Ely is committed to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive workforce which represents our context and wider community. We are aware that those of Global Majority Heritage/United Kingdom Minority Ethnic (GMH/UKME), women, and disabled people are currently under-represented among our clergy and workforce, and we particularly encourage applications from those with the relevant skills and experience that will increase this representation.
