This full‑time post focuses primarily on maternity care with additional gynaecology duties. Generalist consultants will contribute to both areas allowing flexibility in future planning.
Main duties of the job
The role involves providing consultant‑led care in Obstetrics with an element of Gynaecology practice, participating in the consultant on‑call rota at Calderdale Royal Hospital, alternating between the two disciplines. Resident on‑call duties run 18:00–22:00 on weekdays and 08:00–19:30 on weekends, with acute cover during "hot weeks" (Monday–Friday, 08:00–18:00) up to four weeks per year. The post includes antenatal clinics, labour ward cover, emergency and planned gynaecology services, teaching, supervision and multidisciplinary teamwork, and support for service development and governance initiatives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
* CCT (or within six months of obtaining) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
* Broad experience in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
* Evidence of teamwork, flexibility, and excellent communication skills.
* Commitment to clinical governance, audit, and teaching.
* Subspecialty or special interest that complements the department.
* Involvement in service development and innovation.
* Experience in undergraduate or postgraduate teaching.
On-Call Commitments
* Alternating Obstetrics and Gynaecology on‑call split rota.
* Resident cover during evenings and weekends as specified.
* Four "hot weeks" of acute cover annually.
Person specification
Qualifications
* MRCOG or equivalent.
* GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice.
* Specialist registration for Obstetrics & Gynaecology (or within 6 months of admission to the register for trainees). Applicants with relevant consultant‑level experience will also be considered.
Experience and Achievements
* High level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of the Obstetrics & Gynaecology specialty.
* ATSM in Advanced labour ward practice, high‑risk pregnancy, Maternal medicine.
* Understanding current issues within Obstetrics & Gynaecology and the future direction of the specialty.
* Understanding current issues within the wider NHS.
* Attendance at a recognised management course.
* Leadership evidence across professions.
* ATSM in Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy or Benign Gynaecology.
Teaching and Training
* Experience and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non‑medical staff.
* Academic achievements or evidence of familiarity with research methods resulting in publications.
* Training in clinical and educational supervision.
* Attendance at a teaching course.
* Formal qualification in teaching/education.
Audit and Research
* Knowledge of audit principles and participation in completed audit projects.
* Critical appraisal skills.
* Evidence of knowledge of research methodology.
* Good communication and empathy skills with patients.
* Willingness to participate in a multidisciplinary team environment.
