Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Band 7 Podiatrist with a passion for leadership, service improvement, and clinical education to join us as our Operational Lead. This pivotal role will work closely with the Service Clinical and Operational Lead (CLOP) to deliver high-quality, patient‑centred care by monitoring performance against key indicators, analysing capacity and demand, and driving service improvements.

Youll bring your specialist expertise in high‑risk foot management across complex clinical and domiciliary caseloads, contributing to multidisciplinary diabetes foot clinics and collaborating with diabetes and vascular teams. Collaboration is central – you will work with clinical leads to develop education, training, competency frameworks and clinical governance, while supporting the supervision and professional development of the workforce.

Base location: Knowle Clinic, Broadfield Road, Bristol (BS4 2UH).


Key Responsibilities

* Provide strong operational and clinical leadership within the Podiatry Service.
* Support the Podiatry CLOP to deliver safe, effective, high‑quality care, leading on service performance, monitoring KPIs and driving continuous improvement.
* Maintain a complex clinical caseload, providing specialist assessment and management of high‑risk foot conditions in clinic and domiciliary settings.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary working, including diabetes foot clinics and other coordinated care initiatives.
* Line‑manage staff, planning workforce, recruitment and performance management to ensure effective resources and equitable service delivery.
* Oversee day‑to‑day operations: clinic capacity, rota coordination, estate issues, proactively resolving challenges and escalating risks.
* Lead on clinical governance: audit, quality improvement, incident management and embedding learning into practice.
* Provide supervision, mentorship and education to develop workforce capability and promote evidence‑based practice.
* Implement service developments and organisational change across BNSSG, ensuring a consistent and responsive podiatry service.


Person Specification


Education / Qualifications

* Degree in Podiatric Medicine.
* Certificate of local anaesthesia.
* Post‑graduate training at Masters level or equivalent in diabetes foot care, wound care, high‑risk foot or minor surgery.
* Non‑medical prescriber or willingness to undertake qualification (desirable).


Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge

* Highly specialised clinical reasoning skills.
* Evidence of managing risk in unpredictable situations to uphold patient safety.
* Specialised clinical skills and theoretical knowledge across full range of podiatric practice.
* In‑depth knowledge and experience in diabetic and high‑risk foot care.
* Experience teaching, supervising and mentoring a range of clinicians.
* Leadership behaviours including autonomous practice, self‑reflection and promotion of cultural change.
* Experience as a clinical supervisor designing, developing and delivering learning programmes in line with evidence‑based practice.


Desirable Experience, Skills and Knowledge

* Operational management experience – capacity and demand modelling, diary management, staff leave planning.
* Experience representing podiatry service in meetings and deputising for senior leadership.
* Leadership and operational management experience.

Job Details

* Pay scheme: Agenda for Change (Band 7).
* Salary: £49,387 to £56,515 per annum.
* Contract: Permanent.
* Working pattern: Full‑time, flexible working.
