Overview
We are seeking Locum Dentists to provide cover at our busy, well-established practices in Bodmin and Newquay, Cornwall. These are fantastic opportunities to work in supportive, modern practices offering a mix of NHS, Private, Plan, and Unscheduled Dental Care.
Main duties of the job
Bodmin Full-Time or Part-Time
* Mix of UDA delivery, Private, Plan, and Unscheduled Dental Care
* Example split for full-time: 3 days UDA/Private/Plan, 2 days Unscheduled Care (1620 UDC pts/day)
£550 day rate (no lab bills) or income split (based on £14.50 UDA, 50% Private, 35% Plan, £23 per UDC patient & 50% lab spit)
Newquay Part-Time (23 Days)
* Private, Plan, and Unscheduled Dental Care
* UDC patients (1620 per day) blended into Private/Plan diary across working days
£550 day rate (no lab bills) or income split (based on £14.50 UDA, 50% Private, 35% Plan, £23 per UDC patient & 50% lab spit)

Job responsibilities
Key Responsibilities – Clinical Care & Patient Experience
* Deliver high-quality unscheduled and routine dental care to NHS and private patients (adults and children).
* Apply current best practice and evidence-based guidance in areas such as:
* Clinical examination and record keeping
* Oral health prevention strategies
* Radiography
* Antimicrobial prescribing
* Management of acute dental conditions
* Dental trauma (adult and paediatric)
* Consent and documentation of extractions
* Treatment of patients with complex needs or medical histories
* Maintain awareness of referral pathways and patient access routes, including stabilisation clinics.
* Provide thorough clinical documentation to support continuity of care.
* Treat target numbers of patients efficiently while ensuring excellent patient experience.
Professional Conduct & Standards
* Adhere to the standards set out by the General Dental Council (GDC) and maintain full registration without conditions.
* Comply with Smile Together’s internal policies, procedures, and contractual obligations.
* Maintain appropriate indemnity cover and NHS performer number.
* Take personal responsibility for understanding and complying with all relevant codes of conduct and governance frameworks.

Professional Development
* Maintain a Personal Development Plan and up-to-date CPD log.
* Engage in reflective practice and strive for continuous improvement.
* Attend and actively contribute to peer review meetings, clinical audits, and development sessions.
* Maintain mandatory training compliance and embrace ongoing changes in legislation, technologies, and clinical practice.
* Participate in training through Smile Together Training Academy and external education providers.
Team Collaboration & Flexibility
* Support colleagues across Smile Together, including Early Years Dentists, Apprentice Nurses, and wider clinical teams.
* Contribute to delivering unscheduled dental care services, including collaborative team temperature checks.
* Represent Smile Together professionally as an ambassador for our mission, vision, and values.
* Be willing to work from other locations when required, integrating into the local team as needed.
Organisational Engagement & Contribution
* Actively engage in service development, planning sessions, and in-house meetings.
* Work with the Clinical Director and operational leads to help drive service improvement.
* Deliver in-house training sessions or webinars as required.
* Play a key role in contributing to Smile Together’s success as a Social Enterprise by supporting community-focused oral health innovation.
Governance & Safety
* Maintain safe working practices at all clinical sites and ensure compliance with clinical governance requirements.
* Adhere to all health and safety procedures and promptly report incidents or near misses using the designated process.
* Maintain strong IT skills, particularly in using the Practice Management System.
Other Duties
* Undertake any additional reasonable responsibilities as requested by the Clinical Director or management team.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GDC registered and eligible to work in the UK
* Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree
Experience
* Experienced in NHS Dental work
* Friendly, adaptable, and confident working independently
