Fleet and Equipment Engineering Officer

Grade: F

Salary: £39,152 to £41,771 per annum (rising by annual increments to £41,771). More information on salaries and progression can be found on our pay and policies page.

Allowances: Tool allowance: £469.44 per annum | Telephone allowance: £162.96 per annum | Best endeavours: 3% of annual salary.

Hours: Full Time - 37 hours per week

Location: Blandford Vehicle and Equipment Preparation Centre with some limited opportunities to work from home

As a Fleet and Equipment Engineering Officer in our Assets department you will:

* Effectively support and provide additional technical guidance to the Maintenance Teams, troubleshooting and problem‑solving to aid the resolution of difficult or challenging technical problems.
* Be available to travel at short notice to any location within the service area, and be a point of contact via the telephone for technical/logistical support meeting the requirements for best endeavours.
* Provide project and technical support to the Fleet and Equipment Engineering Manager and the Fleet & Equipment Projects and Implementation Manager to aid in the successful delivery of all relevant vehicle and equipment projects, including but not limited to stakeholder engagement, final acceptance testing of vehicles and equipment prior to delivery into service or issue to the end user.


What makes you our ideal Fleet and Equipment Engineering Officer:

* A recognised Commercial Vehicle Apprenticeship in LGV/HGV (Large Goods Vehicle/Heavy Goods Vehicle) repair and maintenance.
* Knowledge and understanding of transport and vehicle legislation, including transport use, H&S, contracts management and procurement.
* Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate effectively.
* Ability to provide clear, concise written reports and presentations.
* Knowledge and understanding of the type of equipment used and maintained within the Fire and Rescue Service.

Other Information:

* You must have a full current Cat C LGV driving licence and be able to fulfil the significant travel requirements of the role. A service vehicle will be provided as part of this role. Service vehicles are manual transmission only. You will need to travel regularly across Dorset and Wiltshire and, at least once a month, undertake UK‑wide travel to support projects.
* If you are unable to drive due to a disability, we would still welcome your application and will explore any reasonable adjustments that could be put in place.
* The role involves some evening and weekend working. An allowance of 3% of annual salary will be payable to compensate for best endeavours which requires you to be a point of contact via the telephone for technical/logistical support.
* A Standard Disclosure & Barring Service Check (DBS) clearance will be undertaken on the successful individual prior to offer of employment.
* Any offer of employment will be subject to full pre‑employment checks which include identity checks, right to work in the UK, medical, negative drug test, receipt of satisfactory references, verification of employment history and an explanation of any gaps in employment in the last 3 years.
* Upon appointment you will be required to adhere to the requirements of a Health Surveillance Programme and attend an Occupational health appointment for baseline readings.
