Overview
A private family is seeking an exceptional, experienced full-time governess (or similarly qualified childcare professional) to support the care and education of a 5-year-old child during a period of international relocation and transition.
The position will likely be based in the Bahamas for the majority of the first year, with regular trips to London, UK. Accommodation will be provided in both the Bahamas and London.
Responsibilities
The position requires a highly adaptable and emotionally intelligent individual capable of providing stability, discretion, and continuity of care within a dynamic and, at times, unpredictable environment. The right candidate will be warm, grounded, and highly dependable, with the ability to provide a calm and secure presence. Responsibilities will include:
1. Provide warm and consistent care, supporting the child’s emotional wellbeing through a period of significant change
2. Deliver structured early years education, with a focus on preparing for entry into the British curriculum (Key Stage 1)
3. Establish and maintain a calm, predictable routine to promote security and development
4. Accompany the family on international travel between the Bahamas and London, adapting seamlessly to changing schedules
5. Provide homeschooling support during time spent in the Bahamas (anticipated minimum of approximately 90 days per year in the initial phase)
6. Act as a trusted and steady presence, fostering a secure and supportive environment
7. Work in close partnership with the parent, contributing insight and judgement to support decisions around the child’s emotional and educational needs
8. Maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and flexibility at all times
9. Ideally light household management support to assist with overall organisation and smooth running of the home
Requirements
10. Significant experience in a governess, career nanny, or educational role with young children
11. Strong background in emotionally intelligent care and regulation
12. Solid understanding of, or experience with, the British curriculum (Early Years / Key Stage 1)
13. Willingness and ability to travel internationally and adapt to a fluid schedule
14. High degree of discretion, professionalism, and emotional intelligence
15. Confident, thoughtful communicator, able to contribute meaningfully to decisions regarding the child’s development and wellbeing
16. Experience in private households with international travel
17. Household management experience
18. Full driving licence, preferably
19. Able to spend majority of time in the Bahamas, with regular trips to the UK
20. Home-schooling experience
