Job Description

Energy:

Enabling the energy transition through innovation and sustainability.

AECOM's Energy Business Unit houses three specialised practices — renewables (including hydropower), electrical transmission & distribution and in the UK only, nuclear. Each practice plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy, offering innovative solutions that balance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.

Renewables We’re committed to playing our part in the urgent transition from carbon‑intensive energy sources to less centralised and more flexible energy systems. Our teams of energy professionals link up across our global network of offices to provide solutions, designs, and support to clients in multiple technical and deployment areas such as: hydropower, on and offshore wind power, solar power, carbon capture, alternative fuels, hydrogen and, crucially, energy demand assessment and carbon reduction. With an associated deep commitment to sustainable solutions, we combine our engineering and scientific skills with those of our environmental colleagues to try to achieve equitable and biodiverse outcomes.

Start here. Grow here. Are you ready to take on the role of Hydropower Lead, in our rapidly expanding hydro team. You will be responsible for undertaking both a technical role on projects within our energy business and a business role comprising team leadership and business development. You will be aware that the hydro has a strong international dimension and while collaborating with hydro colleagues across the globe there will be a focus on projects in the UK and Ireland and countries throughout Europe and India (EURI).

Projects may include all stages of design from feasibility to detailed design and site construction supervision both in the UK and internationally. Our clients are a mix between large energy utility generators and private developers and contractors.

Here’s what you’ll do:

* Serve as a program manager, project manager, or technical lead, directing teams on major hydropower projects and programs. Lead multi-disciplinary teams to the successful completion of the project, focusing on client communication and delivery.
* Lead the pursuit of major hydropower projects leading major proposals, and engaging with clients.
* Support senior leaders in the development of business strategies for hydropower based on market trends and identify and pursue opportunities within the business line and adjacent sectors.
* Lead client‑facing activities to develop business with existing clients and win work with new clients, build strong relationships with clients, teaming partners, industry groups, and stakeholders related to the market sector.
* Develop strategies and capture plans for major pursuits, aligning with AECOM’s business development strategies and technical capabilities.
* Maintain regular interaction with clients to ensure satisfaction with AECOM services and engage with project delivery personnel to proactively address client feedback on team performance.
* Coordinate with AECOM's Technical Practice Leads to match team skills with market trends and drive strategic technical leadership hires.
* Coordinate multi-disciplinary design of hydropower energy infrastructure.
* Respond to technical queries.
* Act as lead verifier on reports including technical feasibility studies and design reports (depending on core engineering discipline).
* Direct less senior members of staff and mentor more junior engineers.

Here’s Where you will do it:

The existing hydropower team in AECOM’s EURI is UK based and it is anticipated that this appointment will be made in the UK although specific location will be flexible. However, if you consider that you would fit the role but could not be UK based then we would still be interested to hear from you.

And let’s not forget about the perks at AECOM. You’ll enjoy a range of core and personalised benefits designed to support your future and well‑being, customised to fit your lifestyle. Take advantage of career development opportunities, our flexible hybrid working model to ensure a work‑life balance that suits your lifestyle, technical practice networks, AECOM University, and volunteering days.

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible? Here’s what we’re looking for:

* BEng (Hons) degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical or Mechanical or Environmental)
* Chartered status or actively working towards chartership
* This role, with a strong technical focus, requires candidates to have a background in civil, electrical, mechanical, environmental or project management experience in the hydropower sector and demonstration of a high degree of technical competence.
* Experience leading projects in the first of the following – but the others may also be an advantage:

Hydroelectric design – conventional and pumped storage.

Hydroelectric construction

Hydroelectric commissioning

Developing teams

Working with clients and collaborators on an international level

Ideally you’ll have:

* Membership of a recognized professional body relative to our core markets.
* Strong track record of achieving/exceeding financial KPIs and driving business development.
* Experience working with various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, transportation, and commercial development.
