Assistant Technical Officer – Stores and Distribution

The closing date is 23 April 2026.

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer – Static Band 2 – Stores and Distribution.

Full‑time (37.5 hours per week, including weekends and bank holidays).

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer in the stores and distribution area. You will join a dedicated team delivering ward services at University Hospital of North Midlands.

We are looking for a flexible, highly motivated, dynamic, and enthusiastic person to provide a pharmaceutical service to our in‑patients and out‑patients.

You must have excellent organisational and communication skills and be able to work effectively with the existing team at ward level and within the pharmacy directorate. You should be methodical, accurate and follow strict procedures.


Main duties of the job

* Telephone duties – answering queries and taking ad‑hoc orders.
* Assembly of orders for distribution to wards and dispensaries, receipt of medicines for onward supply to wards and departments.
* Stock ordering and supply for wards.
* Maintaining stock storage and levels and adhering to good distribution practice.
* Assisting in maintenance of stock levels of medicines on wards and departments by participating in the pharmacy ward top‑up service.
* Participating in the day‑to‑day running of the automated dispensing robot.

The post holder will work as part of a pharmacy team of Assistant Technical Officers, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists to deliver the pharmacy service to UHNM.


Job responsibilities

You will support the supply of medicines, including liaising with wards and departments and external customers.

You will liaise with internal stakeholders to support the timely supply of medicines and processing of orders.

You should demonstrate initiative, be helpful and approachable, organised, accurate, with good IT and problem‑solving skills.

It is required to be able to work unsupervised to meet deadlines.

You should have previous experience in a similar environment, with a willingness to work in other areas within pharmacy.

You will be responsible for processing ward orders and external stock requisitions for the delivery of medicines, liaising with clinical teams, ward staff and external customers to resolve queries and ensure patients receive their medicines in a timely manner.

The Pharmacy Department provides medicines management and medicines optimisation services from both sites. We have implemented a 7‑day working service delivering high quality pharmaceutical care to patients. We provide an exciting and sociable working environment and are looking for forward‑thinking, enthusiastic and highly motivated staff to join our highly regarded team.

You will work as a team member, complete allocated work, and ensure rotas are complied with, with specific training in all areas to help develop your skills. The directorate actively promotes development, education and training.


Person Specification


Knowledge, Training and Experience

* NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services and at least 1 year experience in a pharmacy setting or 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English at grade C or above.
* Previous experience working within a pharmacy setting.


Communication, Analytical and Judgemental Skills

* Ability to communicate with a wide range of people.
* Ability to work as a team member and work on own initiative, completing allocated work and ensuring rotas are complied with.
* Good organisational skills.
* Establishing and maintaining high standards of work and attention to detail.
* Computer literate with good general keyboard skills for using pharmacy computer systems, including ordering, receiving, stock and rectifying stock discrepancies.
* Literate and numerate.
* Well organised and able to work within a set timescale.
* Previous experience dealing with customers and difficult queries.
