We are looking for a remarkable Power Systems Engineer to join a pioneering aerospace project within a global aerospace organisation.
The opportunity is with a well-established, and growing, team working on high-altitude Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs). Industry experience or completion of a relevant graduate scheme is highly desirable. Candidates must have the right to work in the U.K.
Tasks and Accountabilities
Within the role, you will be responsible for the following:
1. Responsible for the design and development of DC Power Systems;
2. Testing and evaluation of current and future battery cell technologies;
3. Generation of test plan documentation;
4. Evaluation of test plan results and drawing conclusions;
5. Generation of assembly documentation/process;
6. Certification of battery packs to both company and international standards;
7. Testing and evaluation of high efficiency Solar Array;
8. Plan the integration of Solar Array onto company aircraft;
9. Integration of batteries into company aircraft;
10. Testing, Integration and proving of ancillary power systems and components;
11. Testing and evaluation of Battery Management Systems on company aircraft;
12. Deployment on Flight Trials to lead and support battery integration and testing;
13. Problem solving / fault finding of DC electrical systems;
14. Work with 3rd party companies to certify products;
15. Work with 3rd party suppliers to find/ensure tools for Battery manufacturing process;
Requirements
We are looking for personnel with the following:
Highly desirable/Essential:
* Relevant degree level qualification plus 2+ years industry experience with DC power systems and/or solar array;
* Understanding of Power System architecture, preferably within the High-Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) domain;
* Understand methodology of battery charge/discharge characteristics;
* Ability to manage own workload both independently and as part of a team;
* Ability to manage packages of work, managing technicians and suppliers to meet programme timescales;
* Ability to solve problems in a timely manner;
* Good attention to detail;
* Good communication skills, both verbally and written.
Beneficial but not essential:
* Experience of novel R&D programs, ideally with challenging ‘cutting edge’ technology;
* Experience of large UAV development;
* Experience of building vehicles, robots or other complex systems;
* Experience of modelling and simulation in MATLAB, Python or similar high-level languages.
