Job Title: Auto Electrician Location: Peterborough Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 Overtime The Auto Electrician’s role is to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective repair, maintenance, and fault diagnosis of electrical systems in Public Service Vehicles (PSVs), including buses and coaches. The PSV Auto Electrician will work within legal compliance and company standards to maximize vehicle uptime and passenger safety. What you’ll do as the Auto Electrician: Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical systems and components on PSVs, including lighting, instrumentation, CCTV, heating, charging, and multiplex systems. Use diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot faults on vehicle electrical systems. Install and repair electrical accessories and fittings (e.g., ticket machines, communication equipment, tracking devices). Perform electrical system inspections as part of regular servicing schedules. Ensure all work complies with DVSA, HSE, and manufacturer standards. Update job cards and maintenance records accurately and in a timely manner. Work collaboratively with mechanics and other technicians to resolve complex faults. Participate in breakdown and recovery duties when required. Attend training courses to stay current with vehicle technology and diagnostic systems.What you’ll need to be an Auto Electrician: NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Auto Electrical/Vehicle Maintenance with Electrical focus. Proven experience working with PSVs or HGVs in an auto electrical role. Strong understanding of vehicle wiring diagrams and diagnostic equipment. Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively. Good written and verbal communication skills. IRTEC accreditation or similar industry certification. Full UK driving license (preferably including Category D or PCV license).
