Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering Higher Technical Apprenticeship at Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. Start Date: September 2026. Location: Portsmouth. Duration: 3 years. College: Havant and Southdowns College. Degree: HNC & HND in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
What you will be doing
Our Level 4 Apprenticeship combines mechanical and electrical skills within a stimulating design and manufacturing environment. You will study towards an HNC in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with the possibility of attaining an HND if eligible, while gaining practical experience on the apprenticeship. This will run alongside the HNC course and provide both academic knowledge and hands-on experience.
* See and understand how a satellite is built
* Work on satellites in the UK\'s largest space industry cleanrooms
* Run vibration, shock, thermal and EMC tests in Environmental test facilities on site
* Support the design of payload integration
* Help the manufacturing teams assemble and test world-leading electronic hardware
Apprenticeship structure
The programme is 3 years, broken into two core phases:
* Year 1: 40% studying at Havant and Southdowns College (Southdowns Campus); 60% on site in the Early Careers Centre
* Year 2 & 3: 20% studying at Havant and Southdowns College (Southdowns Campus); 80% on site with placement rotations around different areas within the business
There is a broad range of engineering disciplines on site to support a broad rotation experience. You will be part of an apprenticeship cohort and participate in projects, events and additional activities such as an Outward Bound week. Over 95% of apprentices who complete the programme move into permanent roles; many continue with further education with support from the business. Travel may be required for some roles within Airbus.
Requirements
* 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including Maths and English Language (or equivalent, subject to validation)
In addition, successful candidates should demonstrate a passion for engineering and provide a CV with grades (predicted or achieved) and a cover letter describing motivations and interest in the space industry.
