Specialist Early Years Practitioner, SEND – Early Intervention Support Service (Service for Disabled Children)
Salary: Scale 6 £35,520 – £37,692 (full time). The advertised salary is for full time work. This role is 32.5 hours per week for 39 weeks per year (term‑time only) and the salary will be adjusted proportionately. Hours: 32.5 hours per week x 39 weeks per annum. Contract: Permanent. Location: Wheatsheaf Hall, Enfield.
Role Summary
An experienced early years practitioner with proven knowledge of supporting young children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is required to deliver individually tailored packages of assessment and intervention for pre‑school children aged 0‑3 with significant SEND. The role involves working independently in family homes across Enfield, holding a personal caseload, and providing practical guidance and emotional support for parents/carers.
Key Responsibilities
* Hold a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in education, childcare or a related field.
* Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of working with young children with SEND.
* Maintain records and write fluent detailed reports including statutory advice contributing to EHC needs assessments.
* Communicate effectively, forging supportive relationships with parents and working independently in family homes.
* Apply excellent early developmental knowledge, assess the learning and development of children aged 0‑3 with SEND and devise developmentally appropriate learning activities.
* Plan and deliver a range of stay and play sessions to meet the needs of children referred to the service.
* Act as the keyworker / lead professional to address wider family support needs.
* Work collaboratively with team members, professionals and other agencies involved with the families.
* Support the transition into a child’s first educational placement (pre‑school or nursery), have a good working knowledge of the EHCP process, and promote inclusive practice in all Early Years settings.
Qualifications and Experience
* Level 3 qualification in education, childcare or a related field.
* Proven knowledge of working with young children with SEND.
* Excellent literacy and ICT skills for record keeping and report writing.
* Strong communication skills and ability to build supportive relationships with parents.
* Early developmental knowledge and ability to assess and plan appropriate learning activities.
* Experience working independently in a mobile family‑home setting.
* Full UK driving licence and possession of a ULEZ‑compliant car during working hours.
