Band 5 Anaesthetic Nurse/ODP:

We have exciting opportunities for anaesthetic practitioners to join our anaesthetic theatre team in St. George’s Hospital:

* a designated major trauma centre for the South West London and Surrey Trauma Network- over 2000 helipad landings by five air ambulances in the last 7 years
* the first in the UK 24/7 thrombectomy service for acute stroke covering London and South East
* the heart of 24 hours in A&E!

Main duties of the job

We are offering exciting opportunities to work within our innovative and dynamic theatre departments within one of London’s largest hospitals. As a valued member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to work across a broad range of elective specialities, including: General surgery, Bariatrics, Plastics, Gynaecology, Urology, Renal, Transplant, Vascular, ENT, Maxillofacial, Robotics, Major Trauma, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Obstetrics, Paediatrics and Neonatal surgery. You will be joining our large dynamic team working across St James' Theatres, Paul Calvert Theatres and Lanesborough Theatres.

Our commitment to excellence extends to our 24/7 emergency services, ensuring you will always be at the forefront in fast-paced critical environments serving the needs of patients. You will also participate in on-call commitments to support our resident night emergency theatre teams covering acute emergencies, Major trauma, and Obstetrics.

The post holder will also be expected to offer support and supervision to junior staff and students. Our dedicated education team will provide further training to help further your career development as well as offering support for any challenges you face. We also offer a range of CPD opportunities to further support your professional advancement.

Person specification


Qualifications & Training

* Registered Nurse (general) or Operating Department Practitioner
* A minimum of 12 months post registration experience.


Organisational Management

* Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care according to individual needs.
* Ability to effectively prioritise workload and patient care needs.
* Demonstrates an understanding of managing resources
* Demonstrates an understanding of clinical risk
* Ability to take charge of the ward in the absence of the Ward Manager on a regular basis.


Education & Research

* Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of research and evidence based practice
* Able to explain the principles of mentoring and assessing junior staff
* Understands the importance of developing self and others
* Demonstrates an understanding of audit
* Ability to take on small research or audit project.


General & Personal

* Motivated and demonstrates an enthusiasm for the speciality
* Demonstrates a caring and sensitive approach to patient care
* Sound verbal and written communication.
