PRU Teacher
Location: Erdington, Birmingham
Salary: £180 – £220 per day
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
About the Role:
We are seeking a passionate and resilient PRU Teacher to join a dedicated team at a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Erdington. This role is pivotal in delivering a comprehensive and adaptable curriculum to students aged 11–16 who face Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, making mainstream education settings unsuitable for their needs.
As a PRU Teacher, you will play a crucial role in re-engaging students with education, fostering positive behaviour, and equipping them with essential life skills. Working within small class sizes, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on each student’s academic and personal development, preparing them for reintegration into mainstream education or alternative pathways.
Key Responsibilities:
* Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver differentiated lessons across core subjects, tailored to meet the diverse needs of students with SEMH requirements.
* Behaviour Management: Implement positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
* Collaborative Approach: Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, families, and external agencies to provide a holistic support system for each student.
* Progress Monitoring: Assess and track student progress, adapting teaching methods to ensure individual learning goals are met.
* Professional Development: Engage in ongoing training and development opportunities to stay abreast of best practices in SEMH education.
Requirements:
* Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
* Specialist Training: Experience or training in PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton is highly desirable.
* Experience: Proven experience working with students with SEMH and Social, Emotional, Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD) in a PRU or similar setting.
* Safeguarding: Level 1 safeguarding certificate and a full, enhanced DBS on the update service.
* References: Recent school-based references.
* Identification: Valid photo ID, such as a driving licence or passport.
Why Join Us?
* Impactful Work: Make a tangible difference in the lives of young people by supporting their educational and personal growth.
* Supportive Environment: Join a collaborative team committed to inclusive education and student well-being.
* Professional Growth: Access continuous professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and career progression.
* Rewarding Experience: Work in a dynamic setting where your dedication and expertise are valued and recognized.
