As a Duty Practitioner you’ll provide support and advice to people who have experienced homelessness at our male or female scheme. You’ll make sure customers feel comfortable and can manage their tenancy, as well as signposting them to other support such as housing, health and welfare. This role is 37.5 hours on a rota basis, covering 8am – 11pm, Monday to Sunday. Job requirements Provide and maintain a friendly and supportive environment at the scheme. Support customers to manage their rent and service charge payments, including their benefit claims where necessary. Complete detailed sign-ups to make sure new customers understand their rights and responsibilities. Assist with all areas of move-in to make sure new customers feel comfortable and informed about their tenure agreement, the local area and other services. Support customers by providing advice on housing, health, welfare benefit claims and other areas. This includes crisis intervention where necessary. Help to manage the safety and security of residents and the building, through monitoring all who enter and exit the scheme, and through regular health and safety room checks. Arrange appointments for customers with services such as GPs and DWP. Accompany customers on visits to other services if needed. Complete administrative tasks including phone calls, post and general enquiries. Support with financial duties including prompting and recording weekly rent and service charges and liaising with housing benefit and benefits agencies on behalf of customers. What we’re looking for Educated to GCSE Level or with a good level of maths and English. Some experience dealing directly with the public and/or clients or customers in a busy service environment. Some experience dealing with complex and difficult behaviours in relation to people facing multiple disadvantages. Great communication and administrative skills. Someone with a genuine understanding and compassion for people without a home, who won’t judge but instead will empower customers and give them a voice. DBS check. Someone able to work on a seven day rota including mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays such as Christmas Eve/Day and New Year’s Eve/Day.
