Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Longitudinal/LateralSystem Architect–Chassis Motion Systemsto be based at our customer’s site in Bicester.
Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.
The Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Control Systems Engineer with a specialization in Vehicle Dynamics. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of longitudinal or lateral motion control systems to optimize vehicle performance and vehicle functionality.
Area of Responsibility
1. Extensivehandsonexperience developing and delivering advanced vehiclemotioncontrol systems, covering a wide range of chassis, driveline, and dynamics functions.
2. ExpertiseincludesTraction and Stability Systems, AWD control strategies, Torque Vectoring,RearWheel Steering, ABS,YawRateregulation, and Electronic Differential Control.
3. Skilled in architecting control algorithms,validatingperformance, and ensuring seamless integration within embedded automotive platforms.
4. Strong ability to translatehighlevelsystem behaviours into clear, structured, and traceable software requirements.
5. Ensures all requirementscomply withsystem constraints, industry standards, regulatory guidelines, and ISO 26262 functional safety principles.
6. Adept at collaborating with crossfunctional teams to refine requirements andmaintainendtoend traceability across theVmodel.
7. Will be responsible tocollaborate with software and systems engineers to capture system architecture, control logic, and interface definitions
8. Will be responsible toensure documentation aligns with functional safety standards (., ISO 26262), ASPICE, and internal quality processes
9. Strong grounding in embedded software concepts, includingrealtimeexecution, interrupt handling, software architecture patterns, and memory/performance constraints.
10. Understanding of howmodelbaseddesigns translate intoproductionready embedded C code.
11. Solid understanding of both Classic and (if relevant) Adaptive AUTOSAR frameworks and their role in automotive software architectures.
12. Knowledgeable in applying AUTOSAR concepts tomodelbasedworkflows, includingcomponentdefinition, interfaces, ARXML generation, and integration into AUTOSAR toolchains.
Knowledge / Experience
Essential:
13. Experienced with Control Engineering – Theory and Application on complex mechatronic systems
14. Experienced with Vehicle dynamics theory and application.
15. Experienced withMatlab/Simulink andMathworkstoolchain (.Simscape).
16. Experience in software systems development or documentation within chassis or motion control systems
17. Strong understanding of longitudinal vehicle dynamics and control systems (., braking, propulsion, cruise control)
18. Experience with documentation and requirements management tools (., IBM DOORS,Polarion, JIRA)
19. Familiarity with embedded software architecture and vehicle communication protocols (., CAN, LIN,FlexRay)
20. Excellent technical writing and communication skills
21. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
22. Solid knowledge of vehicle diagnostic standards such as UDS, OBD, andDoIP.
23. Experience in defining and shaping embedded software architectures for automotive systems.
24. Demonstrated technical leadership, acting as a recognised reference within the development team for software design, architectural decisions, and providing mentorship and guidance to colleagues.
25. Proven familiarity with key automotive engineering andsoftwarequalitystandards, including Automotive SPICE, CMMI, ISO 26262, ISO 21434, and SUMS (Software Update Management System).
Desirable:
26. Experience with model-based development (., MATLAB/Simulink)
27. Knowledge of safety-critical development standards (ISO 26262, ASPICE)
28. Exposure to Agile or V-model development methodologies
29. Experience working with OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers in chassis or ADAS domains
