Salary: £25,000 per annum, pro rata plus £1700 island allowance

Contract/Hours: Permanent / Full Time (37 hours per week) and Part Time (20 hours per week) options available

About the role
Action for Children’s Orkney service partners with local organizations including Orkney Health and Care, NHS Orkney, Education, and the Police. Funded by Orkney Islands Council, Orkney ADP, and The Corra Foundation, we deliver early intervention services for young people aged 8–18, focusing on emotional wellbeing and substance misuse support.
As a Children and Families Practitioner, you will work directly with young people and families to enhance wellbeing, resilience, and relationships. You will provide support for issues like family conflict, educational challenges, and community difficulties, adopting a child-centred approach and offering both short-term and long-term support, including positive parenting strategies and follow-up to ensure lasting impact. Referrals come from professionals, families, and young people themselves.

Key responsibilities
* Assess family needs through observations, home visits, and discussions
* Develop tailored support plans, often within Early Help or safeguarding interventions
* Provide direct support to children, young people, and families
* Collaborate with schools, health professionals, social workers, and agencies
* Monitor and review progress, updating plans as needed
* Safeguard children by identifying risks and escalating concerns
Candidate requirements
* HNC and SVQ 3 in social care, or equivalent qualification in social care, nursing, or education
* Experience delivering complex interventions with children, young people, or families
* Experience working with young people and families
* Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
* Driving license and access to a vehicle; ability to travel as required
