Tom is a charming, sweet, and cheerful young man with a love of music, arts and crafts, and spending time with his family. Tom has cerebral palsy, and complex care and medical needs; he is a wheelchair user and is tube fed. He is reliant on others to meet all his health, care, and medical needs. He uses a communication book, along with facial expressions, body language, and sounds to support his communication. Tom has a dedicated and committed care team in place, and he is now seeking a waking night carer to join! His care team works in collaboration with his Mum and Dad who are instrumental in their son's care. The Role at a Glance The night shift starts at 9.30pm initially with a handover then onto assisting and supporting Tom to get ready for bed and set up comfortably into his sleep system. Tom may want you to stay with him for a little chat or whilst he drifts off to sleep – he will let you know! Otherwise, he will alert you via the monitor if he requires your support at any point throughout the night. You are welcome to sleep in the carer’s bedroom as Tom generally sleeps well. Each morning Tom prefers to be washed, dressed and get ready for the day before breakfast; therefore, depending on what the day’s plans are, he may need a wake-up call. There is plenty of opportunities for overtime and if you support Tom during a day shift, he will let you know the plan, however the typical duties all remain the same.
