Test and Commissioning Engineer – Ormazabal
Ormazabal is a leading provider of personalized solutions to electrical utilities, focusing on electrical engineering and renewable energy systems. We are building an in‑house testing department and seeking an experienced engineer to help design and execute product testing for high‑value projects.
Role Type: Full‑time. Salary: £45,000 – 65,000 per year, plus monthly bonus and other benefits.
Key Responsibilities
* Complete in‑house testing on schedule.
* Develop test standards, procedures, and documentation.
* Create and deliver training materials on HV switchgear, protection, and control schemes.
* Provide on‑the‑job training and guidance to junior engineers.
* Support engineering, production, and service departments with technical expertise.
* Lead and organise customer acceptance tests with the project lead engineer.
* Ensure high‑quality products are rigorously tested.
* Collaborate with the engineering team to develop project‑specific requirements and test schedules.
* Work with key customers and DNO frameworks to meet all testing requirements.
* Review and approve test documentation before customer delivery.
Required Skills
* Background in electrical switchgear (essential).
* Experience with 33 kV MV switchgear fundamentals, operation, maintenance, and fault finding (essential).
* Understanding of protection and control schematics for HV equipment (essential).
* Demonstrated commissioning experience of HV switchgear and protection/control schemes (essential).
* Knowledge of IEC 61850 and modernization of protection and control (essential).
* 10+ years’ experience in the electrical industry focused on HV switchgear commissioning (desirable).
* Formal engineering qualification (BEng) or equivalent (NVQ 3+).
* Strong verbal and written communication.
* Team‑player with proactive decision‑making and results orientation.
* Time‑management, deadline adherence, and working under pressure.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
* Leadership experience and ability to build and mentor a team.
* Knowledge of industry best practices for safe and accurate testing.
