Job Title: Crane Maintenance Engineer (internally known as Engineering Technician Grade A)
Location: Dock Gate 20, Southampton
Salary: £37,533 per annum (for 35 hours basic) plus shift premium and overtime.
Position Type: Permanent, full-time.
Hours of work: 12‑hour shifts (6am–6pm or 6pm–6am) on a rotating two‑week schedule:
Week 1: 3 shifts
Week 2: 4 shifts
This rota includes day and night shifts, as well as weekend working.
This role is a Safety Critical position.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Manage, maintain and carryout all designated engineering activities which include Rail Mounted Gantry cranes and plant equipment. Ensuring that business requirements are met, and operational availability of assets are fully maximized.
2. Organize and carry out the company’s program of engineering examinations, maintenance events, fault finding, diagnostic checking and repairs of company assess in accordance with the company’s maintenance instructions and procedures.
3. Update and maintain accurate and comprehensive records of maintenance, defect and repair information.
4. Fully utilize Freightliner IT systems relevant to the scope of your work.
5. Participate in the training and development of new recruits and apprentices.
6. Work flexibly within skillset, training and competencies with no job restrictions and give assistance with tasks as directed.
7. The role is a 30/70 split, predominantly electrical.
Key Requirements:
8. A qualification and experience from an electrical apprenticeship or NVQ3 equivalent.
9. Must have a DC motor and ABB drives experience.
10. Must have PCL experience – Siemens S7, CODESYE.
11. HV switching experience would be an advantage – 5500v and 6000v systems.
12. Mechanical skillset/ability would be beneficial in this role.
13. Must hold full UK driving licence.
14. Have an ability to work at height.
15. Have a flexible approach and can-do attitude.
