Job Title: Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician (Electrical Bias) Location: Tiverton & District Hospital Contract: Full-time Job Summary We are seeking a reliable and experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician with an electrical bias to support the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical building services and systems at Tiverton & District Hospital. This role involves planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive repairs, fault diagnosis, and ensuring compliance with statutory and contractual requirements. Although primarily focused on electrical systems, the successful candidate will be required to work across other building services trades, such as AHU servicing and general mechanical support, when competent. The role also includes contributing to emergency response and service continuity. Key Responsibilities Electrical Maintenance & Repairs: Perform fault finding and repairs on electrical systems including low voltage distribution, emergency lighting, fire alarms, nurse call systems, HVAC and AHU systems, backup generators, UPS systems, and BMS interfaces. Carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and electrical containment and wiring installations. Isolate and reinstate electrical circuits for maintenance as needed. Reactive Repairs: Respond rapidly to electrical faults affecting patient care areas, clinical equipment, or critical infrastructure. Diagnose and resolve electrical breakdowns to minimise downtime and disruption. Handle emergency failures such as power outages, lighting faults, or alarm system failures, while consulting with clinical teams for safe access. Escalate complex faults and coordinate with specialist contractors when necessary. Log, track, and close out reactive tasks in line with SLAs and KPIs. Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Complete scheduled inspections and servicing of electrical systems in accordance with statutory and manufacturer guidelines. Test and inspect electrical installations according to IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671). Monitor system performance to identify early signs of wear or failure. Ensure compliance with HTM standards and Trust-specific protocols. Accurately record PPM activities and update asset registers as needed. Contribute to continuous improvement in maintenance strategies. Compliance & Safety: Adhere to Health & Safety regulations, including Risk Assessments and COSHH guidelines. Maintain accurate records for audit and statutory compliance. Use handheld devices or PC-based systems for job tracking, reporting, and documentation. Support subcontractor management and ensure safe working practices. Teamwork & Communication: Work collaboratively with Estates teams, clinical staff, and external contractors to coordinate and complete maintenance tasks efficiently. Communicate professionally with hospital staff to minimise disruption during maintenance activities. Participate in team briefings, handovers, and service reviews to ensure smooth operations and continuous improvement. Required Qualifications & Experience City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering. City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing or equivalent. Apprenticeship-trained in a relevant electrical discipline. Minimum of 5 years' experience in building services or FM electrical maintenance. Experience in healthcare or similar environments (desirable). 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) certification. Authorised Person (Electrical) training (desirable). Strong fault diagnosis and repair skills. IT literacy and familiarity with maintenance management systems. Ability to pass DBS/Disclosure checks.
