Worship Director
Introduction:
Music is a central part of the life of the worship at St Georges. The Worship Director will work across both of our main services (currently 9.30 and 11.00) to lead and facilitate the music. This is an exciting time of transition for the church as our congregations are growing and our musical life is evolving. At the 9.30 service, the long-lasting choir is facing the need to make changes whilst our 11.00 music is becoming increasingly professionalised. The worship director has an opportunity to shape this future life as we look to God for the next stage in our growth. Subject to grant approvals there is some prospect of wider musical work in the community as a form of Christian outreach.
Person Requirements:
* A practicing and prayerful Christian who is prayerful and able to lead others in prayer
* Must be able to sing lead vocals and be proficient in an instrument that can lead public worship.
* Working knowledge of musical technology.
* Able to work flexibly on evenings and weekends.
* Able to work in a team environment, delegate and lead others.
* Be open and comfortable working across traditional and contemporary music styles even if not equally proficient in both.
Duties:To lead and coordinate the musical worship of St Georges across all traditions and congregations
* Be the clear lead for musical worship in the church.
* Be responsible for picking songs and setting of the worship services in discussion with the Vicar on a weekly basis.
* Coordinate the music at all services, including coordinating musicians at services.
* To explore ways of making the choir sustainable in a time of transition.
* Work with the staff including voluntary staff on technical matters relating to music and setup. Manage these teams and resolve disputes.
* Play and lead at both Sunday services on a regular basis.
* Be the clear point of reference for recruiting new musicians.
* Attend team meetings when possible.
* Participate in larger scale outreach events such as annual Easter/Christmas services and Harvest events.
Arrangements:
* Hours - One eight hour day per week. Two Sunday mornings services and evening rehearsals. There will be a need for additional work at festival periods. Timings can be flexible given the need for evening rehearsals but the need for visibility in the office needs to be on a mutually agreed fixed day per week.
* Remuneration per year to be paid in monthly instalments. Payment will be made via BACs transfer.
* Significant authority is delegated to the worship director for the choices and development of the music life of the church. The role is accountable to the Vicar who carries responsibility for the wider worshipping life of the church.
* Monthly supervision with Vicar.
* To negotiate and manage the music budget.
* 3 Month probationary period will lead into a review to continue the role or not.
* To conclude position, 3 months notice period is required.
